Default How Much Will A Catback Hold Me Back?

Hey guys, I just picked up a set of LG Pro's which are 3 inch headers leading into a 3 inch X pipe. This stuff will lead into my 2.5 inch B&B PRT catback. How much will the smaller diameter cat back be holding me back. I know its impossible to give exact numbers but any guesstimates would be quite helpful. I like the sound of the catback (yes I know it will change with headers) and catbacks are fairly expensive so I would rather not have to buy a new 3 inch one but if it is really holding me back enough I guess I should. Any thoughts guys??

Unless you're putting down 500+ rwhp I don't see where a 2.5" cat-back is going to hurt much at all. Without putting out enough power to NEED a full 3" exhaust you would lose some back-pressure, which would likely result in a decrease in power. A 2.5" should help retain some back-pressure in the system in just a bolt-on motor setup.

I figured that if the smaller catback would make any difference at all it would be under 5hp and therefor inconsequential. But then I saw this post https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/987105-kook-s-vs-b-b-headers-ls6-b-b-really-20hp-more.html and decided I might as well ask. BTW plans for the car are mild h/c/i (224 cam)

It won't cost you 5-6rwhp if the muffler flows good. The KIND of muffler you use is the key at your hp level.

Hooker Aeroflow in sig is one of the better chambered ones. Kinda quiet when stock if that matters but wakes up with a cam

Let me get this straight. A sponsor is saying that a 2.5" catback will not hurt power? That is a single 2.5" pipe.

Skull, the link you posted is the same that I posted on this thread earlier which is why I asked this question. Force, what are you refering to when you asked if it was a single 2.5" pipe??

You said catback. A catback is a single exhaust for our cars. You also said 2.5". Thats a V6 catback size. Thats a joke.

MOST catbacks for our cars are DUAL 2.5". I think that is what he is refering too. All that is needed since the gas has cooled down and "shrunk". More is overkill til 500+rwhp

Yea I'm not so sure about F bodies, but c5 catbacks are dual which is why I was confused. BTW SOMbitch, love the name. But I agree, it looks like a catback change would be overkill and pointless unless it was for a sound change.

If you're worried about it.. why not drive on the street how it is if you like the sound and then have dual cutouts for when you want to race?
