Default removing cats on stock exhaust

My car is bone stock except I have a flowmaster muffler. Iam wanting to cut out the cats myself or let a shop do it. My question is, will this make my car sound much better or louder at all?? And also if i cut them off myself and therefore had the area in my exhaust with no piping would it sound bad until i got a shop to put a new piece in?

Thanks!

thanks for the replys so far.. If i do cut them off myself it will only be that way until i sell my cats to someone to get money to pay a shop to weld the new pipes in. Is all this worth it tho, will it sound any better and in the time being that i dont have the pipes welded in will it sound retarded? I realize my ses will be on but it comes on sometimes anyways due to my 02's going bad.

it will be louder and more raspier.. its a love hate type of thing with the cats, some people like the sound with them, some people like the sound without them. personally i would just have a guy at a shop cut them out and weld a pipe in there for you.. if you cut it out yourself and drove it like that there's a big chance you will get pulled over and get a ticket. i had a guy do this for me about a year ago for free cause he owed me and i love the sound of it now.

Why not install a cut out and leave the cats, it will be quite a bit louder.

If you find the right exhuast shop they will do it for free if you let them keep the cats.

best answer so far...the cats are not restrictive leave them in....going from stock exhaust manifold and cats to headers and ORY only gained me around 15hp...plus i have ran 11.72 on stock exhaust with cutout when i was Stock Internal...leave the cats not worth the hassle for maybe 3-4 hp plus you will have to delete them out of the computer or get sims

Why not just get full exhaust if your going through the trouble to cut the cats off? I would do that, or just get the cutout and leave the cats in. Check the emissions rules for your area too...

I plan on removing mine soon also. I wouldn't recommend just a cutout in the Y, I started mine open Y right before I put my new catback on and honestly it is WAY to quiet. It's much quieter than any car I've ever heard ORY.

Keep in mind some shops will not remove the cats for you, it is against federal laws and is a hefty fine if a shop is caught.

Use a long prybar and break them out

sry to bring this back, but my cats are going bad im pretty sure, should i buy new cats or take it to the exhaust shop, have them cut off, and pipe welded back in? the exhaust shop said they'd do it if they could keep the cats.

I removed my cats when my car was stock. It sounded awesome. It sounded very close to the Magnaflow catback system and I still had the stock muffler on the car. I say it will be worth cutting them, but do it all in the same day, dont cut them and ride around for weeks with a gap in your system. Hack the CATS!!!
