tech gurus come on in
Alright so here is the dealio. A co worker of mine has this civic that runs low 13's with a turbo kit and he seems to think that you can make a civic as fast as an f-body for the same money spent on mods if you take two cars that are stock. So this idea of his has now became a bet that will be taking place this spring. The rules.
1) The car must be stock before the modifications are added.
2)You have $1000 to spend on mods.
3)You cannot use any parts that you already have.
4)You must provide a receipt for any and all parts being installed.
I know everyone is going to say nitrous and lighten the **** out of it but if you guys have any suggestions please toss them out.

Well it sound like you answered your question most power for a grand is going to be go gas. Throw a 150-200 shot on it and see him in your rear view mirror. can you install the mods your self??
Well, since he can't use his turbo kit per your rule #3, you don't have to do anything to beat him. For 1k he isn't going to get that Civic into the 13s, unless it's an 07+ Si or Mugen (which costs more than all F-Body's sans the WS6 and SS and isnt even available here).
But to make it fun, you can:
1) tune ($400) and install ($300) of a used torque converter ($300)
2) tune ($400) and install ($300) of a used cam kit ($300)
3) nitrous kit ($750) with a mail order tune ($250) (not really safe)
4) if you can tune yourself and install yourself, you can probably get a used converter ($300), a used cam & springs ($300), and a used nitrous kit ($400)...
You aren't going to be able to buy new unless the tune is not included in that $1k limit. I guess my question is, what does he expect to get for $1k? Intake and exhaust?
The limit should really be whatever his turbo kit was ~ $3k, plus the install and tune $800-1200, and the necessary fuel $500, exhaust $600, and drivetrain mods $600.

It has to be the juice. You know that is what he is going to do (if he has half a brain). Your only other option would be a radical cam with an aggressive tune.
I guess you could look at going with gears and sticky tires, but I wouldn't want to shred my rear end just to prove a point to a Civic owner.

i really dont know what he has up his sleeve. i guess i should have told u guys that the tune will not be included in the $1000. I know this guy knows his s*** when it comes to imports. I am assuming he is going to do somekind of diy turbo kit on the car and completely strip the thing. I am not using my own vehicle. I am in the market for a high mileage ls1 or lt1 car that isnt anything special. I planned on stripping the car out aswell and throwin the bottle in it with some tires and calling it a day. I am just not that familiar with what a civic can really do. Whoever wins the race gets the other dudes car. Thats why we kept the mods to a $1000.
