Default 408 iron block arp main studs..mods to windage tray or just use washers for spacers..

Did most of you 408 guys with arp main studs clearance the windage tray or did you use washers to space the try out a bit for clearance.Don't maybe want to go too far out as them maybe pick up would be too low in the pan not sure how much room their is between pump and pickup even normally?

So let me know what you had to do..

I used 2- 1/8" washers (1/4') thick, on my 4.100" crank. And the pickup tub is pritty flexable, I stacked washers on the pickup screen and put the pan gasket on and then set the oil pan on untill you set on the washers and the oil pan, till i got my pickup clearance between 3/16" to 1/4" off the pan. It worked grate for me, Been running for over a year now and never had any oil or clearance problems at all.

I used washers and some clay to check and make sure the pickup wasn't pinched off. There are quite a few opinions on how much space you need at the bottom but I think I had a good 1/4" clearance and everything is working fine.

The windage tray clears the stock inner bolts because the head of the inner bolts is 50 thousandths shorter than the 0.450 inch tall head of the outer bolts. The ARP stud nuts are all 0.450 inch tall. A 0.050 washer on each outer stud should make the tray fit and minimally reduce oil pickup clearance.

Yeah we put washers on there also..forget how thick and then checked with clay. Think we also minimally bent the pickup tube so it went in nice and we checked the pickup to pan clearance. Seems everything is good have few hundred km on the engine but now its pretty much put away for winter.

Washers to me seemed better than denting the tray for clearance.
