Yeah you'd think this was more commonly known. A good valve job though will run pretty good coin for it to be done right.. you can't do it on stock valves, you're too limited on those. 243's + valves + valve springs + valve job + clean up porting will still cost you more than the prc 5.3's. That could be one reason.

I'm honestly suprised by the number of PRC 5.3's sold myself, considering when you compare a properly ported 243 will beat a properly ported 5.3 head every single time.

yep,to get the right person to do it will cost more than most "budget" ported heads..what people don't understand, most of the gains from "ported" heads come from the VJ and about an inch below the seats..there are exceptions to this of course depending on the type of head..
while you can do more with aftermarket valves, you would be suprised what you can do with the OEM parts..i've heard of over 280cfm with just a VJ on a 243 head..nobody here will believe that tho..

i have a budget build going on now, i have 243s that i bought for 450, hotcam (i know, it was cheap) for 100, all i need now is pushrods, and gaskets and im good to go, also picked up a 3.42 rearend with 20k for 200. The car went 12.3 at 108 with ls6 intake, headers and 3800 stall so i hope to see 11.5s with the heads/cam setup, the heads are def budget, especially if your buying a cam small enough for the valve springs.

BY the way does anyone know what the pushrod length would be with a hotcam and ls6 243s with the hollow valves, ive been searching and havent found a concrete answer

do you have to fly cut for unmilled stock 243's with ms4?
