Default Anyone add plain 243 heads to a mild cam?

Seeing if it would give me anything with my 224r cam. Looking for maybe 20 at the wheels?

Not sure how much it would add with your cam. I went with plain 243 heads and a Torquer v2 and gained about 77 rwhp over the stock H/C.

what heads are you running now?241s?
with a GOOD valve job and bowl blend, you should see at least 25-30rwhp from a set of 243s..a little more if you have them milled for higher compression..

Stock 243 heads should add around 25rwhp to your combo.

I added 243s to my hotcam and gave me 12rwhp and 26rwtq unmilled with stock valves.

Out of the cars I've done (3 to 6 cars) I have seen between 10 to 15 hp at the wheels with mild cams (like you have) out of stock 243 LS6 from the 241 LS1 heads. But at the track they picked up between 1 to 2 tenths and 2 th 3 mph in the 1/4 mile. My 243 (LS6) heads on my car are stock just Comp Cams 921 spring kit for my cam.

I gained 40+ when I went from 241 heads and stock cam to my setup. Hotcam, 243s and tune. Tuner said heads probably helped out about 15HP

get them CNC ported and milled for some real power out of them. why throw on just a stock set of heads?

15-20rwhp is what they're good for on average.

I'm guessing he's on a budget and looking for some cheap reliable power.

If memory serves me we've seen appox. 14-15 flywheel horsepower from a 241 head to a stock 243 casting.

We typically see close to 40hp from the PRC cnc ported heads. Depending on your camshaft, with milling you can see 50+.

What about non ported 243's Milled .030 with .040 gaskets.

flycuts

and MS4 cam?

I already have the cam and flycuts, and 853 heads milled so its simply a matter of switching to 243 castings.. What would the gains be with a cam like the MS4

has anyone done stock 243's with a cheatR cam? I'm getting the cheatR cam ASAP and might consider 243s if I can find them cheap enough and its worth it.

just saying why bother going through the trouble of a head swap when he can save up a few more bucks get them cnc ported and milled and make some real power out of them. the ported heads will only compliment a bigger cam down the road better than a stock 243casting

Stock 243's with a clean up and a valve job will net as much or more power as a PRC 5.3 head. Honestly, if you can't make more power with a 243 over a 5.3 head I don't know what to tell you.

I find that really hard to believe, considering all the results seen on this board with prc 5.3 heads. If that statement were true, no one would buy them, and just pop for near stock 243s.

Quick Reply: Anyone add plain 243 heads to a mild cam?
