Need help with cam selection with prc stage 2.5 5.3 heads on stalled a4
I just bought a set of unmilled prc stage 2.5 5.3 heads. I am pretty sure the valves have not been recessed either. I want it to have a pretty choppy idle so i guess I need to stay with a 111 lsa. I don't use the car for a daily driver but I still want it to be able to be driven daily if needed or wanted to. I was thinking really serious about the torquer v.3 with the 111 lsa becasue I have used this cam before but am worried about it being to harsh on valve train parts. I also want to make sure there are no problems what so ever with piston to valve clearance. The car will mostly be for street use so I want it to have good low end power. I am not as concerned with dyno numbers as I am with track times. I would rather the car perform well than be a dyno queen. The car is a 2002 so it already has the ls6 intake. Here are a list of the mods that are on the car or going on with the heads and cam. The car is also an a4.
1 3/4 pacesetter headers with 3" tsp catted y pipe
slp LM catback
powerbond 25% under drive pulley
SLP air lid with K&N filter
LS6 intake with ported stock 2002 T.B. (pretty likely chageing to a fast 90/90 or 92/92 in the next couple months)
FMS 30lb which = 36lb injectors
yank/Circle D 3800 converter
160 degree thermostat
Stock gears for now (but will be adding 373s in the future)

You cannot run the MS3 with those heads without flycutting, since they were setup for it originally. The TorquerV3 will be about as big as you can go without flycutting your pistons. I think that'd be a nice combo with the converter and the 3.73's in the future! I like that you're not so focused on dyno numbers with the automatic car, but rather track performance! You've got priorities

I am going to post up the specs of a few camshafts that I like you guy let me know which one you think will work the best and also have plenty of piston to valve clearance.

Just because the converter is a 3800 rpm converter it doesn't mean the car will not run under that rpm. The car will probably leave on the foot brake at around 2000-2400 rpm. I had this same converter before and thats what it would do.

It was an auto. They had the heads, cam, LS6 intake, Fast fuel injectors, Lid, and I assume headers, catback with ORY. Didn't say anything about the exhaust though. Nice setup. They ran 12.20 at 115.96 in 90 degree heat.

If the heads were not setup for the MS3 when they were originally purchased, it will not work. Unfortunately, we cannot revise them after the fact to give sufficient clearance for that combo without flycutting the pistons.
