Default Is 7000 a safe rev limit for occasional 1/4 mile runs ?

I figure usually set the rev limit to 6500 but with my gearing for odd 1/4 mile run can I take it to 7000 safely. Not talking continuous operation at redline.

Complete engine build is callies crank, callies compstar rods, arp main studs and rod bolts and head studs. gt7 am, 1.8 yella terras. moly pushrods, afr 225 with 8019 springs. slp pump and double roller.

I used t wind my stock bottom 346 to 7000 occasionally no ill effects with just cam, 918 springs and moly pushrods.

So would think the forged 408 should be ok to 7000.Shouldn't need to go higher to hit target mph in the quartemile. Going with 3.54 gears in a 4l80e next season.

I wouldn't think there would be a problem doing it. But depending on where your cam peaks at, there might not be much of a benefit of turning it that hard. Do you know where the cam peaks? Are you having to turn that many RPM because of rearend gearing to complete a pass without going into the next gear?

No dyno tuning yet so not sure where the cam peaks at..Its very similar to 2005 z06 cam so would think its good for around 7000 rpm ? Yeah just wanted to be able to go thru the traps without going to overdrive in m6 or a4. Might be able to get buy with 6500 redline too have to see. Car won't be tracked that much so its not that critical.

The rod bolt stretch is the concern so if you have forged internals ( rods w/upgraded bolts ) then you will be just fine. Thats assuming you have healthy vavle springs that aren't on edge in terms of rated lift versus the cams lift

I see no problem with that, probably won't have to twist that high though to reach peak HP

Ok well have arp rod bolts and have 8019 springs good for 650 lift and have only 590 lift on the cam with the 1.8s..so would think am ok for very occasional 7000 blasts in the 1/4 if even need it. Will set my rev limits to 6500 for now and see how it does most likely.Won't be till next season though car is away for winter..
