i have a tr230/224 111lsa cam and i what to wait to install the cam and put some prc 5.3 heads on. so is it worth spending $1200 or should that money be spent else were(like nitrous)
Depends on if you want to keep filling up bottle for $40 a pop or go a little slower but never have to fill up a bottle again. Nitrous gets costly after all the extras that go into it. I bought a whole kit + extra bottle + a dedicated fuel cell. That got expensive but shooting a 150-250 shot is like getting hit by a freight train. I would do heads, cam, and a bottle. It's fun.
just me, id rather put that money into nitrous before heads. dont get me wrong heads are a great mod and "can" yeild some really nice gains but for the money how can you argue 40-50 hp vs 100-150 hp? it speaks for itself
Im very happy with my PRCs, great budget head. I plan on spaying mine in the future but only at the track. The heads will give you usable power all the time where as the n20 is only till the bottle is empty. Id do the heads and maybe put a 100 shot on it or even a 75 and you will be flying down the track.

dont be fooled on people saying reverse splits dont work well with nitrous!! look up jaSSon or beardWS6. they were running reverse split cams with spray and ran 10's. the reverse split cams love the spray. i havent seen anybody regret going with the TR230 or MTI X1 for daily driver street cars. the only reason why people ditched the cams is because they stepped up to way much bigger cams, and still missed the torque that these reverse splits make.

I decided to do heads before the spray because I wanted to run 12.00 all motor then spray a 75shot and try and hit a 11:50. Also, in my research, pricing the juice with all the safety parts(window switch, bottle warmer, fuel pump kit ect....) It was the same price as my Prc stage 1 ls6 head milled down.
HAHA!! thanks for that line, I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time. Don't quit your day job! 10's on spray isn't impressive. It's been done with a 50 shot on a stock cam, so sure, a bigger shot on even a backwards cam can work.. but holy crap man, that is sig material!
To the OP i'd change your cam, get the nitrous and save your money for a nice set of heads (ET, AFR, TFS). IMO
Nothing wrong with the TR230, that is what i have and I am going with those same heads. PM predatorZ and ask his thought. He told me to get PRC 5.3 2.5 with the TR 230 reverse split. There is a guy in my city that ran the same set up and his car hauls *** from what i hear.
Edit: See post below. I have also spent time on the phone with Matt and Jason at TSP.

The thing I like about cylinder heads is that you have the power increase all the time. Nitrous, and I've been there done this for years, you are constantly refilling the bottle and only have the power for a few runs.
The PRC Stage 2.5 5.3 heads will treat you very well. Their smaller chambers give you a slight bum in compression (up to about 10.8:1 on a stock LS1 short-block) which is good for power all the way across the board!!
We just finished an install on a TA with these heads and our 224R camshaft (stock exhaust manifolds, cats, and catback) and it made 395rwhp! Let me know if we can help with your combo. We spend thousands of dollars and countless hours on engine and chassis dyno testing for our products each year to ensure that when we say you'll gain a certain amount of power, you will!

the TR230/224 cam is a proven cam over and over!! alot of people sleep on the reverse splits. i suggest u do some searches on the X1 and TR230. 10's on spray isnt impressive!!!
for an auto 346 mild cam and some 5.3 heads thats impressive..
