Default My first attempt at my own custom grind

ok guys been doing alot of reading and trying to interpret things about camshafts and valve events and what makes power and where. so heres a shot. lemme know what you think and where i can improve or tell me if im completely off o! and please tell me if these numbers match another cam already dont want to sound stupid but this is what ive been scribbling all day at work

my goal with this is explosive mid to high range power without worrying about piston to valve clearance.

duration long.. decent lift.. and a good chop?

232/238 598/610 on a 112+2 LSA

LSK lobes

**edited specs**

now is my duration to long for such a low lobe seperation? because from what i understand the longer the valves are heald open the closer they will come to contacting the pistons and also the amount of degrees seperating the lobes will affect this as well. so should i increase the lobe seperation or decrease the duration ?

by the way this will be for a stock displacement ls1/ls6

You'll need aftermarket pistons with valve reliefs, just making sure you know that. That'd be a very deep flycut on a stock piston, I wouldn't chance it.

I'd like to hear it too.. why did you choose your IVO and IVC? Where is overlap in relation to TDC?

Overlap is always at TDC and give/take some each way.

Depending whether it is exhaust biased or intake biased

yep In either case though overlap is still in and around TDC.

No kidding, are you serious? That answers nothing.

I wanted to know where the bias was as I didn't feel like putting his cam into a spreadsheet.

well my bias was toward the exhaust side of the engine. i plan on spraying a little nitrous which is why i gave it overlap and longer duration on that side but it should still make goood power up top but i thought that the numbers would be alright without flycutting? what would need to be backed off for piston to valve clearance.these numbers are at .050 as all cam specs are listed. i was thinking of backing off the duration a bit and increasing the lift. keep talking folks good thread

also for those wanting to know i was planning on seeing what this cam would do on a completely stock internalled ls1 and factory heads (241/243) castings. was hoping for over 400 cam only. what do yall think ??

This cam is not going to clear safely with stock pistons. Try using a shelf grind like a Crane #1449611 or a Comp #54-448-11or getting something from the vendors that are proven.perform. Shorten duration up, and widen LSA for better clearances also.

well i wanted to this because i prefer not to just grab another off the shelf cam. also what im asking is this cam spec has no more duration than a trex or ms4, but my lsa is to low im seeing. so take a look at the change and see what you guys think.

but do you have any clue at all how those valve events affect performance, and how they will work with your factory parts? I'd like to hear some theory about it, or is this just a "bigger is better" experiment?
