Engine Knock?
i have recently bought a 02' Ws6 TA from my sister with only 30k miles on it, the car has always been babied by her. the car is a bone stock A4. the only thing they have done is general maintenance to it. however, it seems to have a very faint knock coming from the passenger side when u first start it up. once it gets up to like 130 degrees it goes away. her husband says that the car has done it since they have got it and they have taken it to the dealership multiple times but they say all of these cars have this knock.
so my question is do your cars have this problem or does it seem like a bad lifter?

It's probally piston slap, which is a normal customer complaint. It's only considered an annoyance. The dealership I work at we get them all the time. Most the time it's excess clearance when the engine is cold. As it warms up the metals expand creating a nice tight seal on everything.

Almost all ls1s have piston slap when cold .Not a big deal but some guys have had engines replaced and sometiems it is excessive and doesn't go away when warm. And you can lose oil pressure with some of the older pumps think 98 ,99 were bad for that. So an upgraded ls6 pump is a good thing if you have one of those older models.
My new forged pistons also slap around for a few minutes until they warm up and then are quiet and that is in an iron block Not sure if the aluminum makes much diff on the sound. Ls1 engines also tend to make a lot of ticking sounds from guess the valvetrain.
Just crank up the stereo and heater full blast or open up the cutout until the engine warms up and hopefully the slap goes away.
