First of all, if you know you will be doing heads at the same time, then pick the right set of heads first. Since you told me you will be doing heads up front, we will start there. If you want good street power, then look at under the curve numbers. A street car doesn't give a **** about peak numbers, because it spends about as much time there as I do at a shopping mall The key here is to bump up your compression as much as you can get away with. A nice set of 5.3 heads either milled or installed with a thinner gasket, such as a .30" Cometic, would put you at around 11:1 compression, maybe a bit higher. Now that you have picked the heads, you can now pick a cam. For a street car, I have learned a great method, and that is to "keep your cam small to moderate, and live off the heads." You will want to make sure your PTV clearance is sufficient since you have a tighter combustion chamber. plenty of people with the head application I mentioned above have run decent size cams with no clearance issues at all. Don't get caught up in the big cam hype though, cuz that is just what it is. I think you are on the right track as far as the cam size. I would keep your duration under 230 and keep your lift at or under .600". I like the 224/228 duration you were given, and the 112lsa is always a winner. However, I would definitely look at a higher lift. Futral Motorsports is always a winner. Alan is known for nice torque curves and very tame idles comparatively. The FM5 and the FM11 are great shelf cams. You can't go wrong with Thunder Racing either though. Their cams have proven themselves time and time again. The TR224 is always a winner, though everyone on here will tell you to go bigger...not me. I've had bigger cams and smaller cams and I am a true fan of smaller cams. The .563" lift of the TR224 scares people off cuz they think it's too small. It's true, there are more options today than when the TR224 started. Nevertheless, it is still one of the favored street cams today. By the way, I am glad you decided to buy the heads at the same time. That will make my job a lot easier Just let me know when you have everything and i will clear the driveway for ya. Anyway, as far as head/cam chopice, we can talk more in person later, but I just thought I would post my $.02. Call me later and let me know when you wanna meet up. We need to go pick up Travis' stranded ***
