Default what length rod?

388 all bore motor (4.125" bore with stock 3.622" stroke crank). What length rod (6.000", 6.100", 6.125", 6.200", etc...) should I use? I WILL be doing a forged rod (of some kind).

6.125 is the most common and easiest to find rods.

I had planed to use 6.125" Eagle SBC rods but wondered if I should go with 6.200" rods.....

How will the engine be used? Sure somebody will tell to stick the longest rod possible in a engine, but the length is application specific.

longer rod will give you less cylinder wall pressure. Id still stick with a 6.125

"longer rod will give you less cylinder wall pressure."

...Which is a good thing. I'd go with the longest rod you can sqeeze in there that won't cause a ring problem. 6.2s can be used even with 4" strokes so they would certainly be no problem to use with a stock stroke. You just gotta get the right piston to go with them.

Longer rod = lower piston velocity, less side loading of the piston, more time spent at TDC. These are all very good things.

I know its a good thing Colonel All I was saying is that they are really easy to find, and maybe even used for cheap. I got my Eagles for a lot cheaper than you can buy them new. Some higher strength rod bolts and im in business.

so a 6.2" rod would not cause oil problems even if "some day" down the road I did a 4" stroke crank?

I don't really know for a street engine. I have 6.2s in my 4" stroke 434 but it's far from being a street engine. My guess is that it would be fine but I'd want to do some checking first.

I'd say go with a 6.125 rod. The Colonel has a 4.155 bore" I believe on his C5R block, they come stock with a 4.125 I think.
