Default Those of you with MS4's...

What kind of valve springs are you guys using? I ordered a head and cam package from TSP 2 weeks ago and it's coming with PRC Dual Valve Springs. Should I have them swapped out if it isn't too late?

Yeah, I've done a little reading and have read pretty much the same about it wearing out the springs. Hopefully they don't wear out too soon.

I know this is a one in a million shot of operator error, but, Im running comp 921 behive springs and have less than 1000 miles on them and broke one recently. I figured I didnt let it warm up properly. I just ordered the Patriot Gold Duel Springs.

The Comp srings were rated at .650 but the MS4 is rated at .651. The Patriot springs are rated the same but I dont have an extra 200$ for the springs rated at .660.

Comp 921's are dual springs, not beehives, and they cost way more than any other spring previously mentioned in this thread.

If you had beehives, they were probably 918s, and those will not tolerate a hi-lift cam like the MS4.

Well, the parts came in today. Everything looks great! I'm starting to think about running a forged 402 or 408 instead of my original 347 idea since I can't find an ls1 shortblock anywhere around here. Anyone daily drive a 402/408? Does anyone have experience with Scoggin Dickey's 402 rotating assembly? http://www.sdparts.com/product/LS2RA...gAssembly.aspx

I daily drive my 408 with the ms4 and in the rare ocassion that i do drive it nice i get about 15 in town. The ms4 does surge quit a bit though and is hard to drive at certain rpms. It is a ton-o-fun though

Yeah, I read about the surging. I think I'll be able to live with it. If you dont mind me asking, how much did your machine work cost you?

If you are looking for a 347 short-block, we have several on the shelf. We also have both aluminum 402 and iron 408 motors on the shelf as well.

On the cam surging, most of that can be tuned out. At extremely low RPM's, yes there will be some. That is just the nature of big cam. However, in a 408c.i. motor, the cam should drive pretty well. I had a 257/266 in my 408 stroker and I could use my remote start and the car would fire every time and immediately find an idle w/ no surging. There is no reason a MS4 can not do the same.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns and we'll get you fixed up right away!

Jon

I don't really have enough for a 408 right now, I'm still trying to save up some more. What is your opinion on the oil consumption and premature piston skirt-wear problem they are talking about in this thread? https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...rs-come-2.html Are those common issues?

With a properly machined block, you really shouldn't have a problem. I think the biggest part of his problem is the fact that it is a new motor and the rings weren't properly seated yet and there wasn't proper breathing on the motor. Piston skirts typically don't have a problem with the proper side wall clearance. If the machine shop doing the work doesn't have proper side wall clearance I could see it hurting a piston.

I have around 10,000 miles on my ms4 and still going strong, I dont daily drive mine but could if need to. Car doesn't really surge unless really low rpm like jon said. Awesome cam!
