Re: These Huge Cams..... Why do I feel small now?
I never have dyno'd my car but I can say for sure that I picked up lots of midrange torque with my XE-R228/228 112 over my TR220 114. Sure the idle quality took a nose dive, but its still daily driveable for me and is a "small" cam.

"I looked at one of my old dyno graphs from when I had the T1 and stock heads.. There is a avg loss of 50rwtq under 4krpm compared to my current cam and all of my other big cam dynos.."
Ouch!
Man, I love this itty bitty little tinsy winsy Stealth II cam. I can't even tell it's in there under normal driving. But last night I spent some good seat time at WOT and this thing continues to impress me. The power from one end to the other amazes me for a 346c engine. I punch it at low RPMs (3500 stall so it jumps right on up to that) and the power advantage over stock is VERY appearant through the midrange (say 3500-5000). Then, the tach swings past 5000 and it's like hitting a small shot of N2O as the cam really comes into it's own. And it just keeps on pulling and pulling and pulling. This cam has good power everywhere and that's what I love about it...that and the all too sneaky idle.
You guys with the midrange killing monster cams are harcore, but ya may not know what you're missing. All in the name of speed you say? In some combos I would agree. But if you're running about the same size stall as me, and are anywhere close to stock weight, meet me at the track. I'll be glad to show you what a baby cam can do.
Big cams are great for big gears and loose 4600 stalls with 6100 RPM shift extensions. Not so great for true daily drivers with mild gearing that have tight 3500 stalls with 4900 shift extensions, IMO. The big cams certainly have there place but I feel like some people get caught up in the bigger is better thing and miss out on some cams that would actually make their car a more fun toy to have.

We should all start talking about torque at 3000 rpm and see where these big cams line up

Imagine what it is now with much better heads, a 387, and a X1
(In 2nd with Nitto it spins the tires above 3500... roll-on... in 3rd its a matter of the surface Im driving on) Thats fun !

I agree whole heartedly. I experienced this for myself with my cam. It was fun and all after I put it in. The car "woke" up so to speak, but when I put the 4.30's in- it was a whole new world. Now all I need is some more tuning to get it right down low, and this thing will move....
