More aggressive version of Cheatr cam?
Hey guys.
I have a 2002 Z28 6spd and I am looking to do a cam swap based on the cheatR cam from TR. I will be keeping the stock manifolds and y-pipe for ground clearance, heat, emissions, etc. I am not opposed to replacing the cats with the Mufflex pipes, but want to be able to put the cats back in if I need to.
The car has an SLP lid and SLP loudmouth exhaust.
This car is a weekend driver and HPDE (roadcourse) event car. It might see the drag strip once a year if that. I am looking for some custom grind specs using the Cheatr as a starting point. I want to make sure I keep good low and mid-range power for exiting corners and enjoyment on the road. Stock redline is fine for me, but I am certainly not opposed to spinning a little higher, like the 6800rpm on the Cheatr. The biggest difference is that I do NOT want a stealth cam. I do want to keep the car very reliable and drivable, but I WANT the lope.
Goal is a streetable 380+rwhp through stock manifolds and y-pipe.
Cheatr specs: 214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA.

I am basically trying to make the Camaro equivalent to the C5Z06. My weight is already close to 3300 lbs. so a little more weight reduction and about 380rwhp should pretty much get me there.

How agressive do you want to go? How worried about seat pressure (and to an extent collapsed lifters) are you? Do you mind changing your valvesprings every year or every other year as maintenance?
I can send you contact information in a PM for someone who can spec you a cam to meet your goals and have it fit your wants and needs if you're interested.

I'm not sure why your working off the cheater as a base line ? if you wan't low to mid power and don't mind a chopy idle a 224/228 - 581/588 on 112+2 will make alot of power
even with stock exahust and drive very nice w/m6

I figure custom grind cam, Patriot Gold Springs, chomemoly pushrods, LS2 timing chain, gaskets, and perhaps a ported throttle body if necessary. From what I have read, I do not need to change lifters and I should be able to use my stock oil pump since the car is a 2002 and that means it is the LS6 pump?
I want to keep the stock heads.

The 224/228 you recommended has a MUCH smaller duration split, which I believe means I would need a better flowing exhaust to take advantage of this cam. Essentially, it would not be as maximized for my exhaust as the Cheatr cam and thus could make less power. Does this sound correct?

I do not want to get crazy aggressive. Remember that I want to maintain reliability and drive ability. Changing springs every other year is not what I had in mind. I was hoping to get more like 30,000 to 40,000 miles out of the valve springs. I hear this is pretty normal with Patriot Golds.
