I dunno about putting a g5x2 with these springs, that cam is rated to what? .609? these springs installed @ 1.86~1.87" only allow for .600 lift, so you are really pushing that with these springs, i'm not surprised at all that you broke it, my cam is 232 .595 and it took 3k miles with the rockers not clearing.
Next summer i'll probably end up trying the cranes and see how well they hold up, or whatever terry has out then.

Mine broke with only 1225 miles on the heads and .575 lift on a XE lobe. I don't think you can say that I was pushing the limits.

terry personally told me that if they are set to like 1.86 or 1.87" they are good up to a .625 lift, and he said the g5x2 was no problem . and i trust terry on that.

Terry, why are you not telling these people that they are not getting Comp springs, they are not 978's as these people have been lead to believe. Don't say they are "like" Comp 978's because they aren't even close. We have sold thousands of Comp springs without ONE failure, but then again we actually buy our Comp springs from Comp.

so if the same mfg makes the spring and sends it to two diff companies, does that make it a different spring?

And what two companies would that be? If you are not buying Comp springs from Comp Cams then you are not buying Comp springs, you could be buying rejects that didn't pass QA as we have seen before, and you could be buying overseas copies, as we have seen these as well and have been burned by these as well.
The aftermarket high performance market place can be an ugly place to do business so be careful what you buy from who.

It could if one companies qaulity control requirements are a notch or two higher than the others.

With all the spring failures going on...I think that I am going to go with a set of springs from the inside of a Bic ball point pen. I have been using them since I was in the 2nd grade and never once had a failure. They hold up under heavy clicking...I sometimes clicked mine maybe 50 times in one day, and no problems!!!

There are a lot of good sponsors on this board...but I recommend Eckerds...you can pick up a 50 pack of pens for $7.99. Disassembly of the pens is easy...let me know if you need help getting the springs out!!
LOL! And didn't PaperMate switch over to stainless steel springs to compete with BIC?

My RGR'stage II heads with Comp 224/581/112 will be shipped on Monday. I called Larry at LS1 Speed Inc. and he said I will get the 987's. This should be ok, right?

Opinions appreciated.....
