The (safe) max for the stock rods is about 550hp, and 7200rpm w/ Katech/ARP rod bolts. Not to say they havent been taken farther, but that would be the reliable max. i would push them to.

Don't the newer Lq4's have the same beefed up rods as the LQ9? There was an article showing the differences of the 4.8L "long rods", stock 6.098" 5.3/LS1+ rods, then the LQ9 "strong" 6.098" rods. I haven't read that in over a year though, anybody else know what I'm referring to?

Did a little more outside research, but I cannot find info on exact years.

LQ4's started out with the 5.3/LS1/LS6 rods. GM built the LQ9 and the LS2 with stronger I-beam rods. Eventually the stronger rods ended up in the LQ4's after a certain year, but too many sources are saying different things. Anyone confirm?

If you google image search "LQ4 LQ9 rod" you can see the first picture to come up is the comparison, but I am not a member of that forum and cannot view the large picture.

I wouldn't push them past about 500 even with the Katchrod bolts. It's usually not the bolt that fails but the rod it self...I wish i had the picture. Some one on the truck side Pushed a turbo motor and basically ended up colapsing the rod wich endded up bringing the piston down into the crank counter wieght...

500 may be a little conservative for the stock rods in a boosted application. Boost does not affect connecting rod strength as severely as RPM's do.

there just the gen4 and 03+ motors smoother powerd metal rods with a bushed small end. They start to bend on spray cars with just a piston in them hitting 700+ on the tq hit. Jucin' went like 9.45 on stock rods. myabe with a not much hevier piston, balnced, with a better rod bolt ther live to 7500? But I'd change them for $250 its a great step up to the cheap scat rods with ARP bolts, then reuseing stock rods. 6.100, and 6.125 depending on piston.

X2 if your gonna buy pistons and plan to buy Katech's why not a little more for a better rod...
