Too late to start using at 91k? I bought the car a while back and don't know what oil he used... Up to now I've been using synthetic blend not full synthetic.

This is what I used to help me decide:
http://jcpm-inc.com/images/oiltest.pdf

I'll only use RP in my Camaro, and Valvoline Durablend in everything else

that test looks old bc of the packaging on the oils.

I use RP in both my cars but to be honest I would just keep using what you have been. You don't really have to run synthetic if you don't want to. I have an 88 camaro also that has had nothing but valvoline 10w40 in it from day one. It has 200k on it and has never been torn down.

It's not that I don't want to its just my car is almost at 100k and I want to preserve it as long as possible.

what i meant is the labels look like they are from the 80s. yes oil formulations change over time. lots of big name companies have huge R+D labs and constantly change formulations. why cant someone produce a recent test with labels/brands that are easily recognizable???

comparing a soft drink to a motor oil is just plain dumb so i reject that analogy.

To add to that, Coke is still bad for you in the same way it was 100 years ago. Motor oil has changed.

I think what's dumb here is to think that oils have recently made such drastic formula changes that a test conducted only a few years ago no longer has any relevance.
(Ads reference Holden Commodore VY's, those came out in 2002... making the test no older than 6 years)

I mean let's be realistic here... The reason why Mobil 1 is so popular is primarily because they've done an incredible job marketing their product. Not because they've made major R&D breakthroughs.

So someone was looking for some information about oils... that's why I posted the link. It wasn't just a personal opinion that I pulled out of my ***.

i saw a special on the r+d lab at castrol i think. they have plenty of people with all kinds of degrees doing nothing but making oil formulations better.

i used to run valvoline in mine but my last oil change interval was at 135,000 and i made the switch to rp in everything, motor, trans, and rear end. i have no complants and i dont see why making the switch would be harmful unless someone can educate me on it

actually oils have changed considerably in the last few years...they removed or reduced several things such as zinc and phosphorus

anyone who has installed an old school sbc or bbc cam knows all about it because there's a good chance they either got a warning from the cam manufacturer or wiped out a cam from shitty oil

Amsoil, German Castrol, Penzoil Platinum, Mobil 1,

Pretty much in that order also.

RP would be the last oil I would use in my car. I am trying to be able to decipher UOA's, But with RP's most recent oil (1-2 year).... their oil breaks down at high temperatures and show itself for having poor add packs.

Dont let Horse power TV fool you with their RP advertising and make you think its the best oil out there. All in all, Amsoil is probably the best, PP coming in a close second.

Ive been using Royal Purple in all our vehicles, a couple of Honda products and the Camaro. Ive had very good luck with it one at 136k miles, one at 112k miles and the other at 55k miles. It seems to be working. Ive sent analysis in on the Camaro and they all seem to come back pretty good changing at 6-7k miles. I think the real key to this is always change the oil on time whether you use a the vehicle meter or your own meter.
