Default Help Me Understand.... Has To Do With H/C Question

I am not here to start a debate or anyhting. Just a little confused. My 2002 Trans Am CAM ONLY made 404/375 and with the numbers SAE corrected it made 415/378 all RWHP/RWTQ #s with a 228/232 .588/.595 110+4

My question, i have seen cars with a MS3/MS4 making only 390+ then i have seen some cars with a 224+ cam w/heads making 385+

Anyone have any insight to this. I can only imagine what my car would make with AFR 205s 63CC and a Ported 92/92 set up?? Maybe 450+

Most people think you need a huge cam to make that power-lots of duration. Numbers at .050 also tell a person where/when the engine is going to make power. In the early days manufactures belived a large runner in the intake and heads did it. Later they realized that more velocity is needed for a NA engine. Its possible to get close if not that power with your cam duration. With the proper compresion and head work. Just got to resist the temptation on going big and hogging out the heads.

yeah i guess soo. Having to big of cam and heads will hurt performance

Could be just that you tested on a dyno that gives inflated numbers too. What does the car run at the track?

My truck only dynoed at 296rwhp, but runs 12.80s @ 103-104 in a 3500lb truck(this was all info from before the FAST intake)

most people that run real large cams do not have an optimized setup. They either have to low of compression or a weak link in there exhaust/intake setup.People running 224 cams and heads and only making 385 rwhp, they have something wrong with there car,or a real low reading dyno. And lastly all dynos are a little different.Track times are a true test.A properly setup ms3 or ms4 car will make more power then yours, but it takes a little more attention to detail to get there, and most people either dont put in the effort or dont know how.

Different engines, different dynos, different tunes, shitty put together combos. Lots of different variables. Im personally not a fan of the huge cam only cars. I like a setup with the heads and cam matched well.

I know that dyno #s do not mean ****. But MS3/4 are supposed to be big number making cams.. That is the point that i am trying to make

I have no idea. The reason that i say that is b/c when i ran my car in 07, at the time i had a stock slipping clutch. When i hit 3rd, RPMs shot up and the clutch pedal feel to the floor. Ended up running a 13.0 @ 116. Obviously i did not go thru the traps at full capacity....

This past summer i put in a textralia z grip clutch. so we will see what i run. Still on stock 10 bolt

gotcha. the only reason i was asking is because 2 dynos are never the same. they are always different. some are way high or way low

Yes for the bigger cams to perform at thier peak more compresion is needed. But the power is way up, rpm wise, and not needed for the street. With the right drivetrain setup a person can give them a good run. Granted all is the same as weight ,suspension. Going with 4:88 gears and a 27-28 inch tall tire(15 inch wheel) a 4000 stall, flash it to 4200. A manual could be launched around the same but maybe a different rear gear depending on the first gear ratio. You can get peak performance form any cam by degreeing it. And with a head that is ported as needed. and an intake that has a runner leanth and plenum volume you need for the engine your building. Our engines(LS) make great power over the gen one mainly due to the head design,15 degree. On the older ones going from a stock 23 to a 18 degree is a huge diff in performance. Alot of it also comes down to great marketing. TSP did run awsome#s cam only. But at 2800lbs It should. I dont know all the stats on the car. BTW nice car. You going to paint the bumper too? Like the CETA bumper.

i have seen a torquer V3 go 420/395 through an M6. i wouldn't expect a equally modded 224 on the same day to make that much.

Welcome to the madness. Lot of experts out there is why big cams are so popular thats all I have to say about that

Nothing beats a proper combo.

Running the biggest cam most aggressive lobes and springs you can find and OEM lifters is the credo for the experts on this site
