Default 429hp from LT1

I read about people taking an LT1 and changing the LT1 heads, cam, and intake to LT4 heads, LT4 Hotcam, and intake and pulled 429Hp out of it. I'm wondering how that is possible being that the stock LT4 only has 330Hp.

Maybe the LT4 Hotcam is bigger than the stock LT4 cam was. Also, they could have ported and milled the LT4 heads before they put them on and bolted on headers. Or maybe they bolted on a blower too!

the LT4 Hotcam is not the stock LT4 Cam. I just put one in my Buddies L98 1985 TPI Corvette. It is a bad *** rockin cam!!! But I dought it will make 429 hp with those heads, that cam, or intake. His car stock is something like 260hp. Some were around there. Any how, I would smoke him all day long(without me huffin) but now, he runs right there with me. Maybe a little faster but not enough to see a difference. OH, Let me add, we installed the LT4 Hot cam and a set of Dart Pro 1 200cc heads at the same time. I know the LT4 heads do not even come close to the Dart Pro 1 Heads. Belive me we looked at all the GM heads before we bought those. Even the GM Fast Burn Heads do not come close. But it took some great heads and the LT4 Hot Cam to make his car match mine and my car is stock. I think he is close to 350HP but not anywere close to 429hp. Now they might have more things then what they are telling or they are just full of ****.

The LT4 hotcam is a weenie cam. I do not belive those numbers. There have been some big numbers(over 400rwhp) put out by some heads/cam/intake LT1's lately though. Must more aggressive setups.

I see the engine being on the dyno has no excesorries on it. So their power readings are gross not net. That is one difference I see. Let me look for more. Plus it has big tub headers with practicly no restive exhaust. It has a 52mm Throttle body instead of stock one. Peak HP was 361 with all LT1 Stock parts with the only Mods being the LT4 heads, LT4 Intake, Headers, and 52mm Throttle body. So if the factory Net HP is 330 and their modified LT1 makes 360 gross, sounds like to me they did not make much of a change. Then they put in the LT4 HOTCAM (this cam is not the stock LT4 camshaft but a much larger then stock GM Performance cam), and Bigger Rocker arms (1.6 vrs 1.5). Plus keep in mind it is on a dyno. I am sure their ECM was tunned for power. So you are comparing a Factory LT4 net hp rating of 330hp to a engine dyno gross power rating of 429hp. It took more then heads, cam, and intake to do this. They also had Headers, 52mm throttle body, 1.6 performance rocker arms, and power tunning on the computer. Not to mention Gross Power is at the Fly Wheel with the engine driving nothing but the dyno. No pulleys, no nothing on the front. Net is power at the flywheel with the engine driving all the stuff on the front of the engine as it would be doing in the car. Also, they are injesting Air Conditioned Air through a Velocity Stack. The Net ratings are with the intake system to be used in the car with ambient air cooled only to the average air temp. So see how you can inflate the numbers to your advantage?

Hot cams & heads are not going to make that kind of power in an LT1 motor. whoever told you this is a artist.

They are measuring motor hp not rear wheel hp. For loss of the drive train they are seeing about 360rwhp.

I made 372 RWHP w/ ported LT-1 heads. Considering a 15% loss for drivetrain, thats 427 HP. I've seen and installed a few of these kits, and they make no where near what they claim. Most are lucky to get into the 12's with it. Worst kit ever for a stock bottom end A4.
