Default '04 ls1 performance mods

ok so to start out i am putting a 2004 gto ls1 in my pride and joy 56 chevy truck. before installing the engine i figure i should build it up the first time around...i was looking at a trickflow package with heads and cam basically all you need minus an intake but then i heard doing p&p on your stock heads and puttin a comp cam in plus ls6 or fast intake was better so any info performance wise is great thanks guys

Trick flow heads will make you more power over a p/p stock head. Longtube headers and a fast 90/90 on a trick flow H/C would be a stout set up. Also throw in a ls2 timing chain and a ported oil pump when you do the swap.

Werd...it comes down to money.

Some will say p/p stock heads, add comp stick...LS6 IM/p/p stock TB for "X" amount of money. Then be happy with that HP.

Then some will say well I want the best so for "X" amount more HP I can spend "X" thousand more dollars and do trickflow/Fast 92IM/NW 92 TB.

So it comes down to this IMO...How far are you going to take it? What is your goal? There comes a point were you have to spend the extra money to get the extra HP.

Would you do N20? Forced Induction? to get your extra power? If so maybe you don't need the trickflow setup if your happy with the N/A HP you make on the p/p heads, LS6 IM/p/p TB...

If your looking for 500+ N/A HP the p/p stockers are probly not the route you wanna go...What's your budget?

Make sense?

The electric water is only good for about 4-5 hp. So unless this is for the strip not worth the money.

not that much. once i read a post in LS1tech.com about an EWP on an LS1 engine GTO and he gained only 2 rwhp, i think as i can remember that GTO was 2004 model.

'04 GTO LS1 already has an LS6 intake. Is it an early '04 or a late '04 LS1? Early was like the F-Body LS1, later was like the LS2. Waterpump, and head bolts(timing chain also but not 100% sure) changed mid year.

What are your goals? Then you can better figure out what you need.

that shouldn't be difficult with a H/C combo.

If money is not an issue;Trickflows, big stick, ported Fast 92mm intake, 1 3/4 LTs/true dual..no need for the electric water pump. Sounds like a great project!! keep us updated!!

You can go with the TFS package, but I'd get a cam spec'd for your setup. There are many better grinds that work great with TFS 215's. Call Mikey @ rapid motorsports and he can do make you a custom grind that will work well for the Trickflow 215's. He's got the best combo out for TFS 346 LS1's.
You'll need pushrods and aftermarket rockers with the trickflows, does the package include those?
I'd also invest in a set of Katech rod bolts while I had the motor out. Cheap insurance, and you don't have to resize your rods if you do them one at a time.

Also, your LS1 probably has the later style floating pin rods/pistons.
There are guys hitting 300 shots of nitrous with the stock crank and rods, so don't worry. The rod bolts, push rods, and rocker arm bearings are the weakest links in your motor. And the pistons/rings if using nitrous or forced induction.

TFS heads are the same price everywhere, so I'd buy them from mikey. He'll need to mill them slightly anyways. I'd buy the pushrods and fast intake from him also. He can port the fast to the heads. And he'll know what size pushrods you need based on the cam specs and how much the heads are milled.
You'll have one VERY stout LS1.

i saw an ad in the latest summit mag. there was an ad for trick flow head/cam pkg for like 3100 bucks. 3 diff setups same price. 485/500/515 rwhp. this was tested on a stock ls1 with ls6 intake. sounds like a good investment. esp if no N02 or FI is going to be used.
