Very true.................I have that same problem I was looking at getting a turbo specific cam, but ended up getting a used TR Cheater cam Saved some money to put back towards getting a forged short block.

But, if I had a free zo6 cam I would have saved more money and ran that.

As mentioned several times above, the LS6 cam (02+) is a great budget turbo cam. I would also suggest that you get a set of 317 heads. They will outflow stock LS1 heads and drop your CR by a full point (72cc combustion chambers) which will allow you to run more boost safely. they can be had for cheap, ~$250 or less.

they are the heads from the lq4/lq9 truck/suv motors..flow around the same amount as the 243's(ls6 heads), but will drop your compr ratio down in the 9's (not sure of the exact number, but i know LQ4's have 9.4:1).

Yeah, they are aluminum heads w/ LS6 port but with larger combustion chambers. They will bolt right up to a LS1 and should drop the compression ratio by almost a full point. The LQ4 had a compression ratio of 9.41:1 but it also has dished pistons. You can also run a thicker gasket to drop you CR a little more.

AFAIK, They came on '01-'04 full size trucks and yukons w/ a 6.0 engine and they should come on all Escalade motors. They will have "317" cast on them similarly to the LS1's having "853" or "241".

'01 LS6 cam:
204/211 .525/.525 116

'02-'04 LS6 cam:
204/218 .555/.551 117.5

As far as I know the '01 LS6 came with 243's just like the '02-'04 did, and the '01 LS6 is factory rated at 385hp and the '02-'04 LS6 is factory rated at 405 hp, so I guess the 20 hp difference is mostly due to the cam (increased exhaust duration and increased lift on both the intake and the exhaust).

The 01 LS6 heads did not have the light weight hollow and sodium filled valves they were on the 02/04 LS6 heads only.I also think that the cam profile was more aggressive on the 02/04 cams.

Oh yeah, forgot about the valves. Those are the cam specs listed in my SA book, How to Build High Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s.

When I referred to cam profile, what I meant was that the cam lobes on the 02/04 are more aggressive, thus allowing the motor to rev quicker.

Check with GMPP for the part numbers...just click on the sponsors logo and go from there.
