i love my ms4.. but with stock heads, many other cams can perform just as good (that are smaller).. and that is a fact..

honestly.. the ms4 is not that impressive on stock heads, or average ported heads..
when you put on a set of trickflows or AFRs matched with a ported 9090 or something that is when it REALLY shines, and what it is meant for..

didnt mean to come off so harsh... i would just hate for someone to not choose a cam because of false information.. i apologize

I opted to use the MS3 cam over the MS4 because it wouldn't be as hard on valve springs. I would think the MS4 only makes marginally more power than the MS3 at 6000 rpms. I'm sure the MS3 cam is more than enough for the 370 I'm building for my C4

I loved my MS4 on my cam only setup, so I put it in my 6.0L with stock L92's and still like it! and if you look around for UNPORTED l92 numbers, I made 460 before the new intake elbow(car picked up 2 tenths with the change)

Power of the curve?? When do you people race someone and go, "well lets race, but lets be cool and shift at 4k!!" haha never!

LS1's LOVE RPM's but even with a so called "donkey dick" camshaft, my ms4 peaked at 6500 with a stock ls6 intake. but it now peaks at 7200 with the L92's.

ohhh and hell no to flycut with stock heads and bottom.

We'll see how my MS4 and stock heads do when it goes on the Dyno I guess. My 5100 converter and brake should put it in it's powerband quick.

not saying they wont do VERY good.... i know for a fact they will.. i made 385rwhp through a stalled auto with 410s on a dyno that on average dynos 25rwhp low...

BUT they will shine MUCH more over other cams with a set of heads like AFRs or trickflows.. that is common knowledge, and a fact..

you need to decide what heads you will be getting... that will decide your cam choice..

dont pick your cam THEN heads... pick your heads THEN cam..

I would say out of the two cams go for the ms3 or something a little smaller, the car is going to rip with any new cam you put into it. The only reason i want with a big cam like the ms3 is because the car is mostly a track car now. If i had to daily drive the car i would have left my last cam in the car.

Default came chioce with head

anyone think I should just strap on some stock ls6 heads? I'm trying to stay on a budget that's why I want to run stock heads. if you do think I should go with the ls6 heads what head # would be good with what cam & should do any work 2 the head since I know a machinest & might get nice discount

A MS4 camshaft with a set of 243 heads would make good power. You can pick up a set for around 400.00-450.00 from what I see.

if u are keeping the stock heads, a custom ground cam will be the best for you. i run a ms4 but my car is a 383 with prc 5.3 heads. pick a cam that is right for your combination. thats how you will achieve the most power

But if i had to pick between the two, i would say a ms3 if thats the route your going to go

Don't forget the Tsunami either! The Tsunami has a TSP custom intake lobe that engine dyno testing showed really good things!! The Tsunami is a 235/240 camshaft so it's smaller than both camshafts & made very compareable power! The Tsunami recently went 485rwhp in a independent dyno test with the new PRC 215 heads!!

The MS4 does NOT require flycutting on a stock bottom end with factory cylinder heads.

The MS4 picked up 82 FWHP over the factory camshaft on a stock LS1. The engine had your basic bolt-ons with factory heads. I would say the cam performs very well with the factory heads. It also will benefit from a better flowing head just like any other cam. More air nets you more power.

It really comes down to your goals for the car. If you are looking for an all out cam, the MS4 is about as wild as it gets. If you are looking for something with good power across the board and good driveability, I would go with something a little smaller. Either way we can get you setup with a cam to meet your needs whether it be a shelf or custom grind. Give me a call or shoot me a PM with any questions!

Thanks!
Jon

Yes i gained 59rwhp from swapping out my ls6 intake 231/237 cam and 80mm t/b for the ms4 and a fast 90/90. the ms4 has way more power down low. I went with the ms4 over the ms3 b/c tsp told me it would have more down low. I also opted to get it ground on a 110lsa +4. Worked great for 470rwhp through a 9'' and 4.10 gears with 11'' wide chrome zr1's on a mustang dyno.

Heres a graph of just the gains to show it over the entire powerband. 231/237 tsp cam and ls6 intake with 80mm tb vs. ms4 110+4 fast 90/90. Same dyno, same bolt-ons, same heads, same rear end, gears, wheels/tires.
