Just cleaning up some stock ls6 243's i picked up. They will be going on with my Torquer v.3 in a few months. I just used carb cleaner and some elbow grease.

looking good. Did you take out the valves and clean out the runners too?

Yea, i just reassembled it because i didn't want to end up losing parts since I'm not ordering anything for a few more months.

If your taking them apart you might as well just get them hot tanked and decked for accuracy of the install. Either way they look better then before!

you should polish the combustion chamber and the exhaust port while you are waiting.

Waste of time imo. I would rather see have a performance valve job done and the head milled alittle. Great job on the cleaning.

Thanks guys. I will be running these heads with a thinner head gasket (.040") and with the Torquer v3 it should already be pretty close.


As for porting and valve job. Most people are dynoing roughly 15-20hp more over stock and i just can't justify spending $650+ dollars on a cnc port job for 15-20hp when i could put the money else where (clutch,tune,towards 9",etc...)

why flycut if i can avoid it. With that head gasket, it should bump me up to around 11:1 compression.

I found that gasket remover from Permatex worked great for cleaning mine and does not smell nearly as bad. That Carb cleaner is nasty and dries out your the skin on the 'ol fingertips.

Yea but the permatex eats everything and burns like a **** if you get it on your skin!

i do not think it is a waste of time. polishing your exhaust ports prevents from **** building up in there witch means better flow. and polishing the combustion chamber will prevent knock to a point. and you do not have to pay somebody to do it for you.it's not that hard as long as you have the right tools.

Stuff carbons up fairly quickly. Chambers already pretty efficent. I do see your point, but he could gain elsewere imo.
