Default 8% leakdown on one cylinder, what should I do?

I've been planning to do a heads/cam swap but wanted to do a leakdown check first just in case. Got that done today and am a little concerned.

All cylinders came in around 4% except #1, which was 8%. Squirted a little oil in the cylinder and that helped. On all cylinders, air can be heard/felt coming up through the oil filler cap.

Also, the test was done with the motor cold.

Would you guys recommend holding off for a new shortblock or are these numbers safe? The car has 120k fwiw, and has not been beat on.

Thanks,
Dan

i've seen 03 and 04 cars/trucks with more leakage than that. most cars i've tested with that kind of mileage had more like 14-19% leakage. if you could actually hear the air coming from the oil cap, i would say the gauge is a little off. you could also wrap your air hose with towels to make sure you aren't hearing air from the couplers.

Sounds like a healthy engine to me. #1 isn't as good as the rest, but still fine.
