Default MS3 with 3.42's??

anyone else here have a MS3 cam with 3.42's? How is it for driving on the streets??

I realize I will benefit greatly from 4.10's but I wont be able to get around to that until later on in the summer...also, my car is more of a "highway" car then a dig racer.

It'll pull hard but needs the gear

When my CETA was still a 6 spd with stock gears it pulled hard(MS3/PRC heads) but when the 4.11s went in it was a huge night and day difference.

I ran my cam for a long time on the stock gears. It was fine but would bog down out of the hole because of the higher power band of the cam. Just going to 3.73s made a noticeable improvement. I now understand that you should do gears with a cam.

Definitely need bigger gears with that cam! You're holding back its true potential!

car ran just fine with the 3.42's. felt like it had a little bit of v-tec but that was only when you try stabbed it in the lower rpm's, then when it got up top it just took off. your not going to hurt anything by running the stock gear. i ran it that way for probably 8-9,000 miles before i got my new rear with 4.10's. you just have to watch when driving at a slow speed (10mph) the car would buck on me but its workable.

Just as everyone else has stated, the car bogs down a lot with stock gears I'm still running the stockers. It's bearable but recommended you do 4.11's for 6spd and 3.73 for auto if your running this cam.

exactly what I wanted to hear...thanks

My car already bucks at slow speeds because of my Stage 2 RAM powergrip HD clutch...so im already use to it

like I said...im only gonna keep the stock 3.42's for about half a year and then I will swap them out to something different....the bogging down a little from a dig might be a good thing to help save my 10 bolt a little longer.

I just wanted to know if this setup was bearable until I could get the funds to have different gears installed....Im more of a "roll racer" anyways.

The car will run just fine, but that gear is far from optimum for that cam. I had the MS3 on a 113 on my previous setup. With a fast 90, some old TEA ported 853 castings with 2.02 intake valves, 3500 TCI converter and 2.73s and 3.42s. Picked up 2 tenths with that swap to the 3.42s, but shouldve just done 4.10s looking back on it. Cams with a wider LSA in 346 inches like more gear. No doubt, even if you're a 'roller racer', that cam has more of a peaky type powerband and I'd advise a 4.10 over a 3.42 any day of the week, regardless of where you're racing 'from'.
