Default Cam right for me?

Hey what's up everyone in the internal fourm. First time posting on here.

Well I'm looking into a cam for my T/A. When I first started looking into cams the MS4 was what I thought I wanted, but I think maybe it's too much. Also not too long ago I raced a freind with a 99 TA all boltons, ls6, pulley everything, true dual exhaust, 3.73 gears, edge converter, built trans, MS4 cam, prostars, and full slicks against me in my 98 TA, little weight reduction, LTs, ls6 intake, converter, and stock 3.23, with a DR on heavy 15x7 wheels barely hooking compared to his car. First pass I spun all first gear and he won by about two cars, second pass I got my car to hook up abit better and won by about a car length.

Anyway's, the last time I went to the track I ran a 12.4 @ 106 with my mods that I listed it should be good for a 12.3 now, I think if I finsh off the boltons and get some wheels I might get close to a 11 second pass, who knows though. lol
I've heard of guys with similar setups with the addition of a cam and lightweight kmemeber, running in the high 10's. Some with even small cam's like 224's. Im thinking about milling the stock heads for some compresion if needed.
My main goal is to get my car into a 10 with cam only, I'm sure I'll need a 4.10, kmemeber, qa1's, and other misc parts.
But as for the cam what do you guys think I'll need, I really don't drive this car too much just mainly use it racing. I'd like to know more about cams as well, like for instance what does the lift, duration, LSA do for power and how do you know what having more or less of will benfit a person in there goals.

I'm trying to do this on a budget like Im sure abunch of people are.lol I'm looking at a used cam, what do you guys think this will do for my goals? It's a 233/233 112 Here's the guys cam specs sheet

[/QUOTE]

Thanks in advance
PS Sorry for being such a newb.lol

It would be pretty tough to get a 10 second pass out of a cam-only.
Of course its been done many times but the car will have to be lighter than yours and have a BIG stall and a LOT of gear. Good Luck

I've got a 42-4400 stall in it right now, im planning for light weight kmember, control arms, qa1 r's, 4.10
I'am sure it'll be tough, lol but Im planning on doing this by the end of the year, testing out every mod at a time till then.
Just need to be pointed in the right direction with a cam, what would be ideal to for my goals. I know other's have done it with a mild 224 .535 lift 112, alot about 200lbs lighter than me, but everything else is abou the same as what I have and what I planning on using.
Do you think the cam I listed will do anything for me, or what kind of application would that cam be suitable for?
Thanks

Honestly Id look at a bigger cam than the one you listed.
Personally for a cam-only application looking to go 10s on motor Id go with a cam the size of a T-Rex.
And possibly a 4.30 gear depending on how tall a drag radial you plan on running.

Check out this thread it has all the cam only times on it...I am sure you can get a 10s with a 224 cam but the race weight is going to have to be 3200 lbs or lighter with some –DA and a properly setup car (max bolt ons, suspension dialed in etc.)
I have dipped barely into the 10s with my cam only with a race weight around 3275lbs with -400 DA, it will make your goal easier with a larger cam if it is not your daily driver anymore…
I am also a big fan on the TREX v2…get everything working together and you will be there no problem…

Damm -DA,lol I'm gonna need help from god then. lol I'll probaly have to find alittle extra 50hp from somewhere else, if I cant dip it on motor. Im around 3350 raceweight, I still have a ways to go for the weight mods, I'll try to go out to a scale in tonight.

What about this cam I found for sale custom comp 236/238

HR 112+4
Adv Dur: 285 287
Dur @ .5: 236 230
Lobe Sep: 112
Valve Lift: .601 .605

Also is there a write up I can read that talks about cams, from the lifts, duration, LSA, and reverse split's, basicaly a cam 101. Maybe I can come up with a custom cam myself, lol I really don't want to go over a .600 lift, but if there's an advantage to it then...

Thanks guys

I doubt youre gonna be able to run a 10 cam only on motor with a cam thats under .600 lift.
Unless your race weight is like 2800lbs.
But either way,good luck man.

But who knows maybe it can be done.
I say either try it out with the MS4 with a 4400/4.10s or possibly 4.30s.
Or go with the T-Rex V2 with a 4400/4.30s.
That should get you very close with your race weight.
Good Luck
