Default rod bolts

I want to replace my bolts in my stock rods and I noticed that arp make a high performance and pro series. Which one should I use with stock rods?

Katech I believe has the best replacement rods bolts for the LS1.

ARP rod bolts require resizing the rods too, With katech they use the same torque spec as factory and weigh the same, so +1 on Katech rod bolts

I dont get the whole ARP needs resizing thing. From all I have read the stock rods are non alterable.

Non-alterable?? Every rod can be re-sized (to a certain degree). You're just truing the rod bore up because of the added clamping force of the ARP bolts. Technically you're suppose to at least get the rods checked when you unload them which is why katech specifically instructs you to leave on bolt tight while you remove/install the other, then do the other side. It's just the safe thing to do. Many, many people don't and don't have any problems. If it was mine, I would just so I know for sure.

And to the OP, if you're just wanting to swap rod bolts and go use the katechs. They are a swap and go replacement. Just make sure to follow the instructions as they are printed.

Maybe I am confusing this process with reconditioning my fault. Basically just tossing them onto a rod hone then I guess correct?

Well I think you're right to a certain degree. I thought that the LS1 rods aren't able to be re-sized like say SBC rods are because of the bearing choices it leaves you with. But I think they can be trued up if they are only slightly out-of-round.

Maybe someone can shed some light on this? I'm not competely sure.

Cracked rod design prevents reconditioning. Note the mating surfaces of the cap and rod.

I know when I had my rods checked out for my new setup the number 6 rod (that coincidentally spun a rod bearing) was tight. He was able to toss it onto a rod hone and open it up and get it where it needed to be. I am building another stock shortblock setup.

Yeah, I knew they couldn't be reconditioned or re-sized a great deal. But as you had done, they can open it up "slightly" with a hone, which is what I was trying to convey, lol I guess it didn't come out quite right. And usually opening up the bore slightly is usually all that's needed with the ARP bolts from what I understand.
