Default lifters for ls1? lunati?

i am getting new heads and cam for my ls1. i figured i would throw in some new lifters since im gonna have the heads off. wondering what is good? lunati lifters have a good price. i hear good things about everything else lunati makes. wondering if anyone has any experience with the lunati or comp lifters?

I asked this question,

to the Tech people at Comp Cams when I rebuilt my engine.
They said there was nothing wrong with the stock lifters and there was no need to change if they were in good condition and had modest mileage on the stock cam.

Stock GM lifters are just fine for engines that 90% of the people on here build. A race only engine would want to step up to the CTS-V race lifters or Morel.

Comp #850-16 is a GM replacement type
Lunati's are Morels...

Both are proven good and will work just fine for a modest build, the price difference will be large between them though.

my stock lifters have 80k miles on them and 10k with my .646 lift cam. probably due for new ones. had to get new rockers because the stock one were torn apart by the cam.

ls7 is what I put into my newly built 347. They are cheap and are great quality.

FWIW - I just pulled a set of Caddy lifters from my build after a couple got noisy and put in Lunati bar lifters. My cam has .660 lift.

There is nothing special about LS7 lifters, don't get caught up in the naming of a
GM part. The are in all of the other LS based engines, car and truck alike and they are backwards compatible to the LS1, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS6, LQ4, LQ9, etc. Everything except the DOD engines. Don't believe everything you here online.

Caddy lifters are Race lifters, not sure about daily driver usage. They make them litter so something has to be sacrificed for performance. For a drive the "LS7" ones are the best choice.

I agree.....

People want to (on the forum) be able to talk about whatever they have done or put in their engine, and "LS7" anything makes them feel good about their decision, although it truthfully is no different than saying "LS1" lifters.

I have a set of cranes waiting to go in, they are a nice piece and not too expensive. Might be a little hard to find now though.

This is kind've ironic you posted this since last night I was reading through your old but long post "L92 dyno numbers + plan B" and was seeing you had the caddy lifters and thinking if you were running them this long they must be fine!?! I too have these lifters and haven't had a problem yet. Now I see this post.................................
