Just pull a nice easy one from cylinder #1 or 2 it wont take long. 8 months I can almost guarantee they are the newer design. Post back your findings this whole thing should take 1/2 hour to 45 minutes max.

Ok guys,

Here's what I found...

I ordered this Comp Cam Trunion Upgrade.

The Comp Cam Trunion Upgrade kit also has INA bearings, but they are not the same caged type bearings that JFM-Jr and Mike94ZLT1 posted.

The older caged type Harland bearings have INA SCE105 USA stamped on them.
The newer full-needle Comp Cam bearings have INA SN105 USA stamped on them.

I am wondering if the latest Harland Upgrade will come the INA SN105 USA bearings ???

A few observations about the Comp Cam kit...
1.) Doesn't come with retaining washers between the bearings and snap-ring, like the Harland Sharp.
2.) The trunion itself works with the stock rocker bolts.
3.) No rocker bolts were provided with the kit.
4.) The trunion itself is made from 8620 steel alloy.


Even with a press, it doesn't appear like it will be easy to install the new Comp Cam Kit provided bearings into the rocker body. I called Comp Cams and was told that this was a do-it-yourself kit. Comp Cams also told me that the kit came with new rocker arms bolts.


With all the above said ... Other than the 8620 steel alloy trunion from Comp Cams and whatever Harland sharp uses... All said and done, I don't see these being much better than the stock rocker arms as both upgrades will use a bunch of loose needle bearing just like the stock one.


As a matter of fact the stock rocker arms use bigger more stout needle bearings.

That retaining washer is what holds the bearings in place in the event of a failure. Basically contains it. The stock arms use a press fit endcap that will not contain anything and also limits rockerarm travel.

That makes sense.

What's ironic is the Comp Kit doesn't come with the retaining washers.

From the dead.......

I recently had valvetrain issues. The previous owner had these installed 3-4 years ago. I've had the car now for 2 years. Turns out 3 of my rockers were binding. I replaced them with stockers for now.

Tonight I will dissassemble one of the 'bad' rockers and see what the bearings look like.

Did Harland Sharp send you new trunions?!?!?

Those are INA bearings and those are the ones that fail. HS no longer uses those INA bearings.

My situation worked out as I bought the bad set from another member and he refunded me the money. I bought a brand new set off another member here and they also had the INA bearing. Sent that new set back and they replaced the bearings with the newer design. I dealt with Randy Sr GREAT guy. These guys will take care of you, they provide some of the best customer service out there.
FWIW Randy did mention these rockers should be broken in with a break in oil. This may prove an issue with alot guys running synthetic. I lucked out as they went on a brand new engine that was running break in oil anyway. Just something you may wanna bring up.

If that 9.87 second Camaro doing a wheelie in your signature is using these Harland Sharp stock rockers it makes me feel fairly confident in the product.

Last night I removed all of the HS rebuilds and put in stock rockers until I talk to HS

I contacted Randy. He saw the pics I took. They are currently in his hands getting the new bearings installed. I shipped them out last Saturday.

These were installed on my car when I purchased it. To be honest, the stock rockers are fine for 95% of the engine builds out there. The YT's are a nice alternative though and not much more money than these harland sharp rebuilds

That's true, the stock upgraded rockers have proven to work well.

When new motor time comes, Yella Terras might be an option.

Just to let everyone know. I also have the L92 rockers upgraded by HS. I just changed my cam and inspected my rockers. More than half of them are binding up(even locking up at some points) and some have unnecessary amounts of play. Mine were upgraded about 3-4 years ago but I only have 4K miles on them because its not my daily. I suggest everyone with this HS upgrade should just check theirs. I also know another person who had the exact same problem as I do after 5K miles. Sucks because I really wanted to test out the new cam and tune it. I will call HS tomorrow and post the results.

Do they have the "INA" bearings in them? Take a look it will be stamped on the outside of the bearing.
