is this to much rpm for stock bottom
I know its stupid but when I was at the track I set my rev limited to 7500 and ran down the track shifting at 7300, I ONLY did this cause I wanted to see if not shifting into 4th would help, I did 2 runs and it did not help. now its set to 6700 and I shift at 6600 which is the sweet spot/where my power starts to drop. BTW my car is a 2000 vette, mods below.
6500+ here for over a year with countless passes street and track an hangin in there....bounced my 68000 rev limiter a couple times but stripped loctite on rockers but no big deal... Still don't understand why.......
Don't rev a 98 high mileage motor high!!! I got a rod in my T/A spinning it up to 7K during the tuning session. Started pecking and I knew right then I had stretched a rod bolt!!! Now I have a 04 floating pin LQ4 bottom with ARP bolts!
^^ set rev limit to 6800-6900 I wouldn't chance it. I have spun my bone stock longblock 2000 Z28 to 6500 but I can tell you it didn't like it valvetrain wise...LOL I only reved it that high in 4th gear though due to running out of gear on the N2O at the track.
61-62 isn't bad at all on any ls engine. Stock is 6200. I revved mine too high while tuning and mine didn't like it but others havent had issues. After it happens to you, you will re-think how you rev your car because it's easier to drop the rev limit a couple hundred RPM and save your motor than it is to have to pull it and do a full rebuild from a stretched rod bolt!!!
