I have heard so much about this setup and I want to know why it is so special other than the price.. I am leaning toward a Futral Motorsports 409ci iron longblock right now, but it could be a Futral Motorsports 370ci just as well.. I am leaning more toward the tq monster..

the best thing about them is the larger bore alows for more valve unshrouding than the 346 ci blocks.
BTW It was fun teasing Brandon about you hanging from his sack since he is such a little fellow compared to you!

Yeah 370's are cheaper abd you can go with a little bigger/better heads, but it isn't worth it unless you're going for big boost or spray. (Note the the big FI guys have alum motors: Harlan, PSJ, Raymer, etc) Heck even the big spray guys like ARE are still using an alum block. I say if you're planning on going FI or spray build a forged 348 like most of the people on the board, just my .02.

Remember Vince....if you want to go fast (or have the best chance at going fast), go with the guys who are already going the fastest. That is the only way I actually had a motor that performed well. Futral is probably the one I would consider first. Cost should not be your first consideration.

I have been going back and forth myself about which to build....stock LS1 with 6.125 rods, slight over bore or going with the 6.0l motor, .030 over and same bottom end. Your not increasing the stroke with the 6.0L block, so I wouldn't think you'd get much more torque with it. The larger bore would help head flow, but is it worth the extra weight???

Well I HAD a forged 348ci in the car.. It easily cracked from a small valve being broke in it. Some of you are suggesting building another one? If you have a 4 year degree in Business and you cant find a job do you go back to school for 4 more years for Business? Yes, I agree the added weight sucks, but until the prices come down on 409ci Alum setup. I have to do what my pocket book tells me..

If you go with an Iron block make it worth the added weight. A 409 would be sweet and all that extra tq will make up for the added 80 lbs.

Re: I have had 3 shops wanting to build me a 370ci motor.
Good advice,my engine will be aluminium.IMO the alleged strength of a iron -block is overrated.Only certainty is it is heavier and cheaper.I think it silly to go backwards and add 90 lbs to the nose of a sports car.It would take a **** load of power to make up for it and your still 90 lbs heavier than you should be.
This is great advise, and my sentiment towards the matter. That weight on the nose will be a bear on your sixty-foot, both on the street and at the track.
Vince, what is the price difference between building another 346 and building up a big motor?
If I were you I'd take a serious look at a setup like Allan's and Ron's. A forged solid roller 346 (without comp 26918's) and a direct port setup!!!
