Default 5.3 heads???

Whats the benefit from running 5.3 heads on an ls1? I have a mild cam in my ls1, if I had 5.3 heads with large enough springs, there wouldn't be any issues. correct?

Chambers are smaller I believe, resulting in higher compression ratio.

higher compression ratio but they wont flow that great w/ the stock valve size . so what you'd pick up from the higher compression you'd lose due to crappy flow unless you did some porting and had bigger valves cut in. but yeah they'd work

higher compression if you swap the 5.3 for the ls1 head you wont see much of a power gane unless you fully ported with bigger valves.

I noticed an increase in low-mid range power and lost very little up top if any. The only reason I did this swap was cause I couldnt afford to buy any ls1 or ls6 heads at the time, only 6.0 or 5.3 and sometimes in alaska you have to take what is available. But I had floated the valves going down the quarter in my stock setup when I accidently shifted to 2nd on my 3-4 and messed up a head and some valves and my pistons and my pushrods. It wouldnt have been a rush deal but I wanted to make it out to the strip one last time before it closed for the year so i got some beehives and pushrods and threw on a set of 5.3's. I really have no complaints. I made the numbers i was looking for at the end of the year with little money invested.
