Default I have an interesting problem

So i took my car in to get tuned today. They called me a couple of hours later and said they couldn't get a signal from the cam sensor.So I gave them the go ahead to swap it out. They called me again a little later and that didn't fix it. they looked down in the hole where the cam sensor goes and said the reluctor wheel wasn't centered in the hole and suggested maybe the cam had walked forward. Is it possible the retainer on the front of the block broke? If the bolts backed out wouldn't it interfere with the cam gear? It makes no odd noises. It's a 6.0L block with a g6x3 cam and L92 heads.(i also used a comp double row timing set) Thanks for any input!

no trailered it. i did drive down the road about 6 miles roundtrip though.

i had the same problem with mine but my problem was that i had a double roller timing chain. when i put it together i was tired and forgot to put a 1/8th inch thick bearing in and mine did the same thing.

6.0 Block...Is you cam sensor on the front, or behind the intake ?

yea like a thrust bearing. but ithought the 6.0 cam sensor was on the front cover.

Uhmm... My double gear doesn't use one... Just shims for the oil pump...
If it ran decent before the tune, it had to be reading, right ?

I have a spare cam & short block... I might have to throw the cam in & look in the hole...

it ran well enough to go down the road but thats about it. I know it wasn't reading because it popped a code i just wasn't to worried about it because it was my understanding the only thing the cam sensor was used for is startup. I just went and looked in my garage and i do have a left over thrust bearing about an 1/8" thick. i also re-read the install instructions and it didn't say anything about a thrust bearing.

Mine is a 98 LS1, maybe it doesn't use the bearing ??? Makes me wonder...
Anyways, I just put a cam in my other block and the two offset half rings, the one is centered, & the other goes towards the back of the block when turning it...

mine must not be all the way back then because the guy at the shop told me the reluctor ring is twords the front "like the cam is walking out"

The LS2 (aluminum block) is the 6.0l truck motor (iron block) is behind the intake like normal.

Guess you're pulling it back apart... Bummer... Look at the chain alignment, and see if you can move the cam sprocket in & out, when you get the cover off...

Well the verdict is in there is supposed to be a thrust bearing behind the cam gear, apparently it fell out of the gear when it was shipped. I tore it down slid that bearing in, buttoned it back up and no more problems.
