347 or lq
I am either looking at keeping my ls1 and doing a Tsp 347 rotating assembly in it or just doing a lq4/9 short block or just do rods and pistons, my questions are:
Which would be a better way to go? i know lqs are running pretty cheap right now but it will be used...
how much do i expect to pay for all the machine work involved with the 347 or rods and pistons? i will be putting it together myself...
The reason i am doing this is cause my motor has started smoking, i kinda want to keep my ls1 cause everything insides the heads and the cam is all new
And would the 347 be ok for about 100-150 shot
I guess what i am asking is what way would you guys go if you were on a tight budget?
I can get the rotating assembly for around 2 grand, how much does machine work usually run?
As for pistons and rods thats maybe $1500, then another $500 for machine work.

I think it will be a goodtime and a good reason to do true duals on my car since i have it apart... atleast thats what i will say to myself haha
Machine work should be in the neighborhood of $1000.00, figure in the rest of your parts $$ and that should get you a close price.
What are your guys thoughts on this? Has anyone ran this motor in there cars before? and will all the parts off of my motor fit? i mean its pretty much the same block as the Ls1 only in iron right?

I've heard some good things about Schwanke engines, but I've never had any personal experience with them. I built my own engine from oil pan to heads and as for Machine work, I may have $500 total and thats everything from boring and honing to valve job. Of course it helps that this guy does it all on the side
. If you have to replace the crank I would go ahead and but a 4" crank and go ahead with a 408. Thats what I would have done had it been me, but my crank was good so thats really the reason I went 347. There are no performance increases from going 346-347 its just like any stock LS1, but mine will just take alot more abuse on the spray
. Would the stock lq short block handle a 100 dry shot?
Well i guess i have plenty of time to save now i just got my letter in the mail telling me my license has been revoked... red license + getting pulled over for aftermarket exaust and getting a ticket for it= bye bye license... ******* colorado and there you must leave your exhuast stock laws...I dont understand stupid *** laws like this, oh wait it gets better in the city of denver you can get a ticket for driving a black car on sundays, no wait it gets even better there is a law that also states you can be ticketed for loaning anyone your vaccum haha what a wonderful state i live in ******* bullshit
