Soaking may not be necessary....but I can't imagine a special coating being used that is degraded by oil..someone should be able to validate this!

I did fing the Chapter in the book under Non-Soakable Parts.
It said not to soak the lifters or rockers in mineral spirits or any type of solvant.
That the solvant will pull the good stuff out of them, if you do solvant wash them then you do need to re-oil bath them for several days working the oil back into them.
But new lifters should contain plenty of oil internally to install and fire the engine, just put a light amount of oil on the roller lifter and install.
So unless the Lifter or rocker manufacture says to specifically oil soak them, its unnecessary so says GM and the book.

Yeah, soaking in mineral spirits or solvent is MUCH different that soaking in oil!!

Ok so everything went good, no wierd nosies or anything..But that damn collant crossover pipe keeps dripping even after i put RTV all around it.On the driver rear and passanger front..But thats not my worry right now

I went to start the car, and it dosen't idle at all cant even hold it a 1,000 RPM..But around 2k or 2500 Rpm, it will hold a bit but the minute it drops past that it dies

Any way the car backfires like CRAZY!!...So i pulled the plugs and they were darck black like hell\..So i got some new ones, and the samething happened in cylinder #5 and #7 after 3 good tries, trying to idle it and hold it i pulled it again and came up with this on brand new plugs
Um What did i do???-sparrk.jpeg

Im gussing i have a couple bad fuel injectors dumping too much fuel..Because the others on the driver side dont look like this at all..And it backfires crazy and loud (maybe cuz im in the garage.), But what do you guys think about all this??

I think your fine.

The previous owner, Nawwzed it untuned!!!..And never changed the gear ratio from stock to 4.10, so the mileage looks higher than it really is..

Thats why i always threaten the car with craigslist..

Lol..Anyway..Im kinda stuck, and dont really understand whats going on..

Glad to hear you worked it out. I've run in to **** like that before. I'm always reminded of Bily Bob Thorton in Sling Blade when they all couldn't figure out what was wrong with that lawnmower, and he comes along and says "It's out of gas".

Been there, done that.

You can get all four of the little gaskets for the steam lines in a package in the help section of your local area parts store. About $9 for the package. Don't use RTV. In fact, there is very little RTV used on these engines. I remember a few dabs on the oil pan, thats it...
