The only thing with that book is it's now years old. I think there's several new book options pretty soon that have newly updated information featuring the newer LS stuff

"How to Build and Modify GM LS-Series Engines" is the one I'm waiting for. Should be a good one , I am told! A few places already have it available for pre-order. I believe we'll be one of the handful of sponsors here that will be offering this one in the near future.

I went with the TSP PRC 2.5 heads bud, they costed me right around a 1k bucks they are super clean, love how you guys had presion racing componets on the bottom of the head from front to back. You cant beat the bang for the buck that TSP is offering right out of the box performance with good valvetrain perofrmance too. Good flow number, picked up around 40 rwhp

What do you charge to port a customer supplied set of 243's? Also what all is included in the service.

You can either have a valve job and larger valves done on yours, or you can find a set of 243's or even 317's for usually cheaper. You can have the 317's milled .030 and larger valves and a valve job done and they'll flow better than the 243's

a 241 with upgraded 2.02 rev valve and vj will equal the stock flow of a 243/799 and a mill can go up to 10.7:1 scr for long duration cams.
that will prolly make for budget performer.

Nice nice. I'd go with that then! Have 'em CNC'ed once you get the cash and you'll make some serious power regardless of the cam!

Im not sure how the 317's will flow better than 243's given that they have the same ports. Also the chamber isnt as efficient on the 317 when compared to the 243. Milling the heads down to near the compression of the 243 will also restrict cam choice. Can you better explain your statement? If you like 317's that much I'll sell you mine for $300 shipped. I just picked up a set of stock 243's yesterday so I dont need them anymore.

There is always lots of doubters of home porting, but I say $100 and 30-40 hrs can get you ground down and profiled valve bosses, polished exhaust runners and combustion chambers, casting edges and rocker bosses smoothed out, ramp taken down, port matching, and short side blending.

That's the best bang for the buck on here.

yeah thats originally what i was going to do but i think by the winter i'll have enough money saved up i'll put on a set of 5.3 prc heads or trick flows.. we'll see depends on the budget i dont really want my car ripped apart during summer as it was down all last summer due to my rear blown up (3rd time)

I am debating on cleaning up my 317's I am doing a 6.0 build right now and I am going to put a good rod and a domed piston in it. My compression will be right around 11.2:1 with the the stock 317 chamber. I will just clean them up alittle myself, no heavy porting.

Ill do this and test, then maybe down the road take the heads and have them cnc'd and have something to compare it to.
