Default Safe quench?

I bolted my shortblock together today to check my PTV clearance before I send the rotating assembly out to be balanced. I also checked my piston to head clearance and I'm trying to decide which head gaskets to use. I have a set of stock GM MLS gaskets and a set of .040 Cometics. My pistons came out to be .008 out of the hole. I want to run the Cometics but is .032 quench acceptable for a street motor with forged pistons? What quench are some of you guys safely running?

So what did you measure for PTV clearance?
Which gasket did you use to check with?

My quench is even tighter!

LPE built my block with the pistons coming 0.025 out of the hole!

Since they come up so far, I'm using GM gasket, leaving me with a quench of about 0.028.

I'm told 0.030 is the idle min. but I should be okay, as long as I dont get on it hard while the engine is cold.

I'll have to check with my friend who was helping me out. He checked the piston valve clearance while I was assembling the other head. I believe it was around .200 on both valves when using the GM gaskets. He just told me there would be plenty of room with either gasket. I'm using Mahle pistons with 4cc reliefs.

What is your compression ratio?
Sounds like the Cometics may be the way to go!

I'm coming up with 11.26:1 with the Cometics... DCR is 8.47. I'm hoping with a good tune it shouldn't be a problem on pump gas.
