Default Bottom end build up

ok. I am building up my short block but i have no idea where to get the parts form. I want to keep the same 4.8L engine size. If anyone has any suggestions on where to get the parts I would like to hear them. Thanks

Most the sponsors items are good for your engine, Diamond makes pistons, Comp makes cams, clevite?Federal Mogul/Acura all make bearings...

No point in keepin the 4.8 unless you like less power. 4.8 and 5.3 are same block just different crank. Upgrade to a ls6 crank out of a vette. You can get them dirt cheap as take offs from tuners like lingenfelter etc. As far as pistons go check with diamond, I had a price of $895 for a set of custom made forged from a vette tuner. Everything else is LS1 components rods etc. The hardest parts to find will be your pistons, be a lil pricier than most cause they will most likey be custom for your application. I am doing similar build to my 4.8 that will be a 5.3. Good luck if you have any questions let me know.

I see a point in keeping the 4.8. I have one and would like to see what one does when built. Maybe JE would be able to help with pistons. As far as I have heard, the stock rods are prety strong, just use ARP rod bolts. The cranks sem to be pretty strong too. I seem to remember Harlan using a stock crank, and getting 700rwhp or more on a Mustang dyno. Lunati might be able to help with the crank if you want too have extra insurance. Good luck with the buildup.

Just think of it as a 302 vs. 350 as in the days of old

No, there is no point in keeping the 4.8 unless you are not rebuilding the bottom end. That would be the only logical reason not to make it a 5.3, any time you can gain c.i. with practically no cons you do it. Unless you like to be the slow kid on the block what would the benefit be of an engine teardown if you aren't trying to reach maximum power potential, especially if on a limited budget? It just makes no ******* sense man. Why go smaller?

Well if you read the original post it states nowhere that he wants it to be on a limited budget. But to each his own I guess. I would really like to see a 4.8 in the 11's

Tbyrne seems to have the best handle on truck parts. I would try them first.

Have you guy's read his sig??12.6 with that 4.8 at 4500lbs I'm the person that did the H/C/Blower and I say he could hit 500hp and low 11's with that little 4.8.
He's on a mission to be the fastest street driven 4.8 I guess..

Diamond can come up with a custom forged piston for you. They do that stuff all the time.

I would look into the Lunati Pro-Mod rods. I have used them in my motor and quite a few others with great results. 6.200" rods will work great with the 4.8l stock crank.

Have your stock crank polished (or turned, if needed) at your local machine shop. It is plenty strong for what you are doing.

A pair of stock GM multilayer steel gaskets, JE rings, ARP head studs, and Federal Mogul bearings (cam/rods/mains) and you will have a nice build up.

Give Thunder Racing a call. They can get all of the stuff I listed above in stock (other than custom pistons, which they can order through Diamond).

www.thunderracing.com , ask for Paul, David, or Angie

Those are numbers great but if that was a 5.3 you would be looking at least 30 hp more at rear wheels. Or more. By the way how does that 224 cam run in your truck?
