Exclamation Which cam for my setup?

Well I keep reading about the TR224, hotcam, or the 02+ LS6 cam. Here's a little BG about the car: SLP Lid, SLP Loudmouth, Vig 3200 Converter with tuning, and a few suspension items (dropped about 2 inches).

Right now I'm going to be replacing my SLP loudmouth with a magnaflow system to rid the rasp and because I wasnt to get headers and run a ORY. So that brings me to my 1st decision: MAC, hookers, or pacestter headers? Right now I'm really leaning toward getting coated pacesetters and a custom ORY to give me some more ground clearnace since I have a 2 inch drop.

This then brings me to what cam I should get? I do like a mean lobe sound (but don't want it too extreme), I also want the cam to be pretty realiable and streetable since I only go to the track every once and awile. I do have a daily driver tho. With any of the cams I am planning on upgrading the heads to make everything more realiable and once everything is in I want to get a full dyno tune (Speed Inc isn't that far from me). I do still want to avg at least 15mpg in the city... but this isn't a major issue. I'm tring to still keep emisions in mind but figure that won't be a problem after the full tune...? And finally money is a little bit of a issue, but I've been able to find a TR224 cam for around 250ish.

*I think I included everything .

My 224 just went in. Great choice, it's not too radical, can run smooth without tuning (although you should still do it), and still, the car shakes and bakes at the stoplight. It's like a racing thoroughbred begging for the gate to fly open.

Me likey

out of those choices the TR224 seems the best bet.

Im new with knowledge of cams but i think i want one now after reading these posts. I have a 99 firehawk , would it be a good investment to get this cam you are speaking of? Would it add a good amount of HP/torque? If so, where can i get one of these and what else do i need to do for this to work for me? thanks

Your choices are endless. Is your car an M6 or an A4? As far as investment, I think we all see modding as an investment-for fun, not money returns. I got a great performance package that wasn't all that expensive, pm/e-mail me if you want to know more.

Cams are great for power, mostly horsepower. You will gain some torque, especially in the upper RPMs. Some cam-only set ups can bump you up 40HP with tuning.

Cruise the sponsors on this site and it will give you a bunch of options.

Well hold on now. If you are not going to run nitrous then I would opt for a little more power and same driving attributes from the 227/224 .569/.563 114LSA. Just my .02

There is also the Hammer cam from MTI 222/222 .566/.566 112LSA makes very good torque and nice power, with very little fuss and emissions problems.

I would also go with the Pacesetter headers and a custom Y.

ss427ci - Hmm that does sound good, but then a small shot of nitrous does cross my mind every now and then. I'll have look into that MTI cam, but it seems I can get a really good price on the TR224 also.
