I am assuming you have headers.. SO your running aluminum block and heads and most likely headers, your (and alot of us) are going to hear alot of internal noises. If its a slight tick and runs good like you say, then i think your okay. Research alot of the threads here and rethink your question. I believe alot of members will agree on this one..

How do you know your preload as it doesn't sound like you took any measurements? The block/heads will grow as the motor heats up, I have read as much as 0.015". If that is the case, and you truly have 0.020" of preload cold, hot you would have 0.005". If your measurement is accurate, I believe your pushrod measurement should be re-taken and preload increased.

LS7 lifters are ~.060 taller at the cup. I believe what you are facing could be from having too long a p-rod and too much preload (heads milled as well.)
I say measure.

After reading the 8+ pages of the other thread about this, there is no WAY I'm ever changing the cam or heads/etc without extensive measurement, lol.

Thank you LS1tech.

thank you all i am frustrated i have removed the valve covers three times now and still have no clue how to mesure the p rod now that i know the ls7 lifters are .060 that helps a lot to narrow my problem i am going to take the valve covers off again and make sure but i think i need the 7.350 p rod length. i have no experience doing this i built this beast myself it has gone through 40 bottles of nitrous and has had the tick ever since first start up but its time to stop ticking

Measuring is easy but first you need to buy an adjustable pushrod. Thunder Racing has it along with other vendors. If you get the adjustable you will know exactly what to get for length the first time and there won't be any guessing. Its less than $20 for the tool.
