Default Blue smoke from exhaust!

Hey guys, last year a buddy kept telling me after I go wot that theres some blue smoke coming from the exhaust. Yesterday my father was behind me and told me the same thing after I did a toll way blast with him behind me. He said it looked blue to him as well. I have not noticed any abnormal oil consumtion. It always burns 1/2 a quart of GC every 3k miles. I dont know what to do because I got absolutley no money to take anything apart. I never see any smoke or smell any burnt oil. I've seen and smelt cars that burnt oil and thats not what my car is doing. But I do get a wierd kind of odor when I do come to a stop somtimes but its not oil. This whole thing makes me crazy any body got any advise?

EDIT: Would my tune have anything to do with this? And I do notice when the car gets started when the engine is cold there is a slight miss fire and the first time I go wot after being warmed up it will kinda backfire but morre of a quick "pop" and also does it when not going wot for a while and then I do it will "pop" again.

This could be what happening, Your PVC system is letting oil in the intake in small amount, and building up and when you go in wot or under a heavy load the large volume of air is sucking the puddled oil into the intake runners and causing the smoke. Open you throttle body blade and look in to the intake with a flash light and see if there is oil in there

OK that makes sense because after I beat on it the poping goes away until I drive it normal for a while or at a low rpm then after a couple hours of driving if I go wot I get it again. I'll check the intake but I know the TB blade itself is always spotless and I clean it about every 5k miles. So if there is oil in the intake then what do I do to stop it? Thanks in advance!

You can try installing a catch can. They are relatively cheap and are designed to stop oil from getting into your intake maifold.

There is another way oil can get in cylinders, How miny miles on your car ? The valve guides can be worn also and valve stem seals, If the guides are ***** ,it causes the valve to shift causing the valve stem seal to leak. The intake valve guides has a vacuum effect because of the piston going down and the valve being open pulling air in the cylinder so can also pull oil down threw the valve guild if it worm or bad seals and plus dearing wot, there more oil up top to be pulled past the seals. Just a thought...

How do your fuel trims look(LTFTs and STFTs)? When you go to WOT(over 80% throttle postion) you go back to Open Loop. If your running Rich the ECM is going to pull fuel by reducing the pulse width on the injectors, but if you are maxed out for some reason and the adaptive strategy can't make any more adjustment you should set a DTC. Is your SES illuminated? If so, what DTC is set?

Sorry I dont know too much about tuning, but Speed Inc. did the tune on it. As far as the SES light that never came on for anything. Its just a bolt on car with a tune. I got no cats and run td's dumped so I know im gonna get exhaust fumes and stuff. I think im just gonna try a catch can since its the cheap thing. Anyone know were I can get a cheap catch can?

Simple way to see if it is indeed the valve seals.

Take the car out after its fully warmed up. Start at a speed of about 40mph and gradually go WOT all the way to about 100mph, nothing crazy. Then when you reach 100mph come off the pedal smoothly to idle. If you don't see any smoke at all from that run, its most likely the valve seal(s).

Then start at about 60mph. Smack the throttle to the floor hard and quick. If you get the cloud of smoke, its your valve seal(s).

It doesn't take much oil at all to make that cloud.

The reason it smokes when you hit the throttle hard and fast to the floor is because the sudden drop in pressure sucks oil through the bad valve seal(s) from under the valve cover. When you accelerate gradually you don't get that sudden drop, so it won't pull oil through the bad valve seals. I had this years ago and had the same symptoms as you, I had the heads rebuilt and it didn't smoke anymore at all. And their were like 7 bad valve seals in my heads, the guides wouldn't even stay in, they just fell out while on the work bench.

If you leave a trail of smoke no matter how you accelerate, you may have a ring problem. You'll need to do a leakdown check.

I'm told it happens when I go wot and let off the gas and l keep it in gear, not on the actual acceleration.

valve seals, mine used to do the same thing. If I would even let mine idle for a while then it would smoke when I took off. The seals fixed it

I figured that it is not hurting the motor. I have looked at my older vids, i noticed the blue smoke starting in 8/2006....

So i am not worried about it. I always make sure my car has enough oil
