My 224/224 0.581/0.581 114LSA has steep lobes that lower the advertised duration. I think it's advertised duration is around 275 degrees, while a MTI B1 or T1 has over 280 degrees, even though they only have 221 degrees at 0.050" of lift. I think the 224 XE lobe (which you have) also has about 5 more degrees adverised duration than mine, and that the XE lobes don't get down to 275 degrees advertised duration until you go to a 218 or 220.
You'll have to check the numbers for yourself, but to help idle and streetability, find the smallest advertised duration you can. You want to keep you duration at 0.050" high, to make good power.
The downside of getting a cam with steep ramps is that it makes the valvetrain louder (sounds like a sewing machine), and that it's harder of valvesprings.

I beleive Slowhawk gained 10 hp going from TR220 on a 114* to a TR224 on a 112*. You should be able to sort out surging with tuning and no cam change.Especially on a 114* lsa, dont give up power when you dont have too big a cam to begin with, IMO of coarse.

Comp xe 224 cams are 277 advertised. Keep playing with edit brotha, you can make that thing work. My 110lsa cam doesn't surge although I do have a six speed. Do you have a stall, I would guess yes. Through some gears in there in that will help also. Good luck.

vig3600... my car always seemed to idle funky even before the cam after i put that converter in...
oh well, after i kick some M6 butt at the shootout on May 3rd i may keep the cam <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

HD: I had no surge issues with the same 224 cam. I did use higher shift & lock-up points than stock. You probably just need to fiddle a bit more once the snow melts and raise lock up speed a tad.
A while back Paul at TR told me the 224 was worth around 5 ft-lbs and 5 hp over the 220. That's throughout the powerband, so it won't be a huge hit, but there will be a loss similar to taking off a bolt-on mod.
The TR 220 cam will be a little more street friendly. I had a 218/218 XE cam and it was very smooth. The TR220 with its faster ramps should be as smooth as my old 218 cam.

I have the TR220 . I still get some surging every now and then. I noticed it more when i had then ported maf ends in. Not sure but it seems so be better with the stock maf but i still get some surging. I would probly get a set of heads and keep that cam is i was you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> . I think im gonna move up to 227 or 228 cam. If ya want to wait like 6 weeks ill give ya a nice deal on mine. or a trade or something. let me know.
