rocker bolts?

Exclamation rocker bolts?

Ok, ive got the valve covers off my car because I have a slight tick tick ticky noise coming from somewhere so I figured I'd start with checking the pushrods. before I unbolt the rockers, is there any special way I have to bolt them back on? You know, like bolt down this one, and that one, turn the motor 90 deg. and then bolt down this one and this one.... and so forth, or can I just bolt them all back on to 25 ft. lbs?

I put them all back to 22 ft.lbs. no need to turn the motor as far as i was told by ls1 enigne builders.

What smokin01ta said, just torque them down to 22ft lb's and your good to go. Also remember to use a little loctite and if you have aftermarket heads put a dab of black rtv on the bolt for the intake rockers. After you torque them, rotate the engine a few times and double check the torque. It's usually always good after once over but doesn't hurt to double check.

does everyone normally use locktite on the bolts?

Loctite is not required on stock heads.

not required but it's always good assurance for only a couple of bucks. it's up to you.

Loctite isn't, but some kind of thread sealer is because porting usually goes through the bolt boss on the intake ports and oil could seep through the threads into the port.

Thanks Glenn....I read that whole other thread, it didnt seem like anyone came to a complete consensus about the situation. What would be better, some Loctite, or a dab of RTV...? I got my heads, I plan on doing the swap withing the next 3 weeks....

Like I said in the other thread, I use permatex brand teflon thread sealer. It is made for sealing threads. RTV and loctite isn't. It's what everyone uses on the old small blocks where the head bolts go into water jackets.

I used GM pipe sealant on the rocker arm studs.

Your engine came from GM with locktite on the rocker bolts, and I think it's a good idea because 22 ft-lbs isn't all that tight. Also, to get the the bolts out it's a good idea to use a black impact socket; it's easy to break the normal sockets.

GM puts loctite under the head of the bolt, not on the threads.

Essentially the same as putting it on the threads with the exception of not having to worry about pieces of dried Loc-tite dropping into the intake ports when you take the bolt out of ported heads.
