I think with these cars you get to a point of diminishing returns. Mods start escalating in price but the gains get smaller and smaller. I've seen many H/C/I cars dyno in the 415-430 range so I can't see the point in spending the extra for heads and a fast intake to gain maybe 15-30HP.

I don't know if these cars or just this cam. I agree 100% on the FAST intake. I know alot of people use them but most of the time the cost doesn't seem to jusify the gains, but that's just me. I want to make sure that I don't get into the same situation with buying cylinder heads.
Someone mentioned Advanced Inductions LS6 heads. I think there is a set of them for sale right now in the classifieds.

I made 430 rwhp through a Hooker y-pipe. I dumped bullets off the headers and picked e.t. and mph at the track, never dynoed it this way. My car has a 5 year old setup and tune on it.

Well I bought a set of 5.3 1.5 TEA heads from JaSSon.
The price was right and after talking with Tooley I felt this was a good choice especially for the price.
If I would have bought a set of 243 heads I would have had to buy a set of springs. A set of Trick Flow heads would have been about 1700. So price/performance wise I felt I ended up in the middle and I will have money left over to buy the Tick stage 2 rebuild kit for my T56.

Well I got my heads today. They look fantastic. Thanks JaSSon. I will leave you some feedback later tonight.
I talked to Thunder Racing about the 977 springs. They said if they were shimmed to 1.850 install height they would work but if not they wouldn't be good enough. They said the Comp 918's will work with them.
I have to get some head gaskets, ARP bolts and a few other things before I try to put it together next month.
Tooley said one of the most important thing with the reverse split cam is the exhaust. The exhaust numbers on these heads are great. I have a set of XS long tubes and I am thinking about having a 3.5 single exhaust made.

im running gtp stage 2 5.3 heads with the tr230 and made 455rwhp and 418 rwtq on a forged bottom end built by thunder in 02, 03 ish. I dont think gtp sells these heads anymore. The downfall to these heads is you have to run 104 octane to make full power because of the compression. Or detune your car and lose 20 or so hp and run a safe tune like i am now.

I have never heard anyone having to use 104 octane gas when using 5.3 heads. I think it puts the compression around 10.5-11:1. There are hundreds of people using PRC 5.3 heads and this is the first I have ever heard of this.
On a different note. Does anyone know if I can use the retainers/locks from the comp 977 with the comp 918's?
Thanks.

with alot of timing and aggressive tune the 59 cc heads will detonate and thats what happened to me, thats why i have a forged bottom end now. With a safe tune these heads don't make there most power but you can run 93 octane without a problem.
