Default which cam 2 pick

i want to do a cam kit, just which cam to choose is the question for me. its going to be an all motor, bolt on car for a while, i will eventually get heads. just got the auto in and i will have anywhere from a 3000-4000 convertor in another month or so when i can afford it. what do yall think? whats a good cam for my setup. full bolt on auto convertor (in time) but i want to have the cam in now

I would go with a medium sized reverse split cam such as the TR 227/224 .569/.563 114LSA or something. Depends on what you want out of your car really.

max power cam all day and night, dont care about drivability never have. i like it mean if thats what you mean. and also, i see most of the cam cars making like 370TQ and like 400HP.....is there any way to get the torQ to come up to 400 also?

You need to get ALOT more specific about what it is you want. Just saying "max power" doesn't tell us much. You state that you will be going to a 3000-4000 converter. Well, a 3000 is WAAAAAAAAAY too small for a truly max effort cam (by this I mean one that will have the engine spinning well over 7000 RPM) and a 4000 really isn't enough either if you want to do it right and drivability is of no concern to you. Plus you'de need a pretty stout bottom end, a great set of heads with a good valvetrain, a nice set of headers, steeper rearend gears, and custom tuning or LS1Edit to take advantage of the cam.

So, what is it that you really want? Max power but no plans to spin above 6800 RPM? What gears? Stock programming?

you did an m6 to a4 swap or are you talking about a different car then in your sig. what kinda of application are you building, strictly strip, strip and daily, ect. do you have to deal with emissions at all?

if if just strip only go with a 230+ cam, the g5x2 has been proven to put out great numbers stock and with heads. the x3 specs havent been released to my knowlege yet and its not available to the masses but in the initial stages its making some ****** awesome power couple with some ported heads from absolute.

i think the x3 is the biggest cam you can go before fly cutting your pistons so keep that in mind too.

like colonel said, with a max power big cam comes alot of other things, rear end, gears, major tuning ect.

give us more info and we can help you out better.

k sorry. yes i did i m6 to a built 4L60.

it was descently expensice lol, but i would say within the next 2 months i will have 411's and a 3500 convertor. all custom tune. all bolt ons. what i meant by the max power thing is, i want the most HP and TQ i can squeze out of this stock head/bottom end. also, i see most cam and h/c cars are making alot more HP than torq. would i need to find a cam that evens that out or is a 3500 with 411's ok with monster HP and a little lower TQ? but i dont ant to stroll to far away from the which 2 pick thing though, thanks guys

im not up to speed on the a4's and stalls but i'd stick within a 224 -230 range cam for your 3500 stall. if i were you i'd get the TC before the cam cuz any decent size cam and the stock stall is gonna be a dog.

if it were me i'd get a 4k stall, tr224, and with full bolts and tune you should be around 370-380rwhp. which aint bad. even though most h/c packages make more hp then tq if you look at there dyno's you'll find they have no shortage of low end, most i've see have about 300rwtq @2500, thats more then enough to get you out and about.

Don't worry so much about the TQ. If it's power down low you want (which is what most people falsely refer to as TQ), then bigger CIs or a power adder is the way to go. Besides, what difference does it make how much HP (or TQ if you'd rather, since HP is simply a direct calculation derived from TQ and RPM) you make at 2500, 3500, or even 4500 RPM if the shift recovery of your converter is 5000 RPM? What matters most is how much power you're making from ~5000 on up with that converter.
