If you have a solid roller set up, you need an adjustable rocker in order to set lash, but with a stock lifter or even a lifter like the Comp-Rs an adjustable rocker will be a huge con in my opinion.

The added weight of the new rocker will be far worse for the stability of the valvetrain than any benefit its adjustability will give you.

FWIW, I run stock rockers on my motor, make 507RWHP with a stock bottom end H/C and run 10.32 with a 7200rpm rev-limiter. Never had a problem with the stock rockers.

Thats cool I was thinking of the 1.8 ratio for now.But I do not think that would be a wise choice cause of a future cam swap.

I use the stock rocker arms as well spinning thru the beams at 7200. They work well.

Default More stock rocker arm questions

I was researching whether or not I should go with stock rocker arms or not. I've got a set of Harland Sharp converted stock rockers ready to go in, but I'm concerned about them breaking.

I'm specing out a blower motor with 921 duals and a street cam profile with .625 or less lift. Do the stock rockers have the strength to handle that level of spring pressure and lift? I've read stuff by rocker arm manufacturers that say they aren't safe past .580 lift or with fast ramp cam profiles.

The other option was to go with 918 springs and a bit milder cam on the order of .580 or less lift. I'm expecting about a 40 whp difference between the two setups.

Any comments appreciated!

I would not be worried about the HS modified stock rocker arms. There was a thread(s) with the HS rocker having bearing failures. In short simply remove the C clip that holds the bearing assembly together along with the washer. If the bearing does not have "INA" written on the side of it then you have a recent set. 921's and a 600-625 lift camshaft will be fine with those rockers. I ran my G5X3 and X4 cams both over 600 lift on unmodified stock rocker arms with no issues. They are light, strong and up to the task at that level.
My current LS2 project will reuse my G5X4 camshaft and I am installing a set of brand new HS modified stock rocker arms.

Thanks JFM! What spring do you run with the big LG cam? I really want to run those 921 as a dual spring gives some piece of mind. But, if a rocker did break, what's the worst that could happen? What's most likely to happen? Is it just a case of replacing the broke one and picking up the pieces?

Default Update

Found out last week that my modified rockers had the INA bearings in them and called Harland Sharp to see what my options were. Randy @ Harland Sharp was super cool and agreed to replace them without any questions whatsoever. Thanks Harland Sharp! You guys rock!
