Exclamation Be careful with old pre-bluestripe 918s

I got my 918s right before the rash of 918 failures. Ran great for a tad over 2 years and many 1/4 mile passes. But the inevitable happened at the thunder shootout:

I got lucky and only scored the piston some and only minor damage to the guide. BIG THANKS TO CRAIG GALLANT AT GTP for fixing the head saturday night to get the car ready for sunday eliminations

Damn! Sorry to hear that man. What's the lift on your cam? I've been running them with my 231/237 for about 2,000 miles so far. Mine are the blue stripes though.

lift is a measly .574

FWIW, I still trust them enough to have put all new 918s on the car.

I think they did good for lasting that long on your setup.Don't you race the car alot?
I've seen alot of springs breaking lately from 2+ years old running the same spring.

Brian, your still on the stock bottom end right?? You rev to 7k often? Been thinking with the new cam setting the shift light to 65-6600.. I might just go 67-6800 now..

I got lucky with my set of 918's. I got them and a T1 cam 5/24/2002 and ran them till day before yesterday when I got a new set of heads. 20000 miles with no problems. Glad I don't have to worry about that now.
