Default 450+ rwhp DD???

So it looks like my friend will be getting a cobra with 450 to the wheels; extra motivation to start the build now. What cam/head package would achieve those numbers with DD MPG and drivability.

Im leaning towards the Texas-speed Stage 2.5 LS6 Heads with a Texas Speed Tsunami camshaft at 111 LSA. Also im looking at 1 7/8 headers and eventually 90/90. My real concern is the drivability of the tsunami camshaft
I believe its like 235/240 at .654/.609 lift. The heads are rated to .660 lift but isnt this a high lift for a DD. How much affect does lift and LSA have on drivability? Anyone have experience with this cam?

is your car a auto or m6? i think that cam is a little crazy for your everyday driving. I would fo prc 5.3 heads and T2 cam. I have installed that setup in many cars along with ms3 cam on those heads and all made good power! Anywhere from 430-470whp with Fast intake.

The one i was most impressed with with my friend got what i told him and he put down 442whp on a mustang dyno with a yank ss3600 stall unlocked. He had pacesetter headers and y-pipe and factory CME catback so it has another 10-12whp in exhaust. he also has a non ported 90/90 some some more power available with ported intake.

Hell if your a M6 car you dont even need heads to out run him. All you need is a good cam to out run him Throw a ported fast 92/92 on it. Then down the road add the heads Get a good speed density tune too

Forget all that...

Get AFR 205s milled to 59cc, LG G5X-3 cam @114, (coz you said DD) 1 3/4 long tube headers (coz 1 7/8 is too big for 346ci) and a Z06 Intake manifold, and 4.10 gears. You will smoke that Cobra all day, every day

Default wut h/c dd

I got the prc 5.3/t2 combo (as stated above) with ls6 intake and no pulley. Made 434/397 (with cut out open) on mustang dyno. Wouldnt recomend anything bigger without gears/ stall. Don't need anything bigger anyway. Oh btw i do have 1-7/8 arh with cats. No loss of power AT ALL under 3k. (but the only reason i got em is cuz i expect to add some cubes further down the road Any decent head/cam combo u should take your buds cobra but most important of all is you need a good tune! I had to learn the hard way unfortunately, good luck man.

TFS 215's or AFR 205's and 228/230ish cam. That along with headers and Fast 90/90 should get you there with good driveability!

Just go procharger, I have dynoed at 518 rwhp after my cam install and still get around 28 mpg highway. Drives stock around town other than the procharger whine...:-)

I like the procharger idea also, but as far as cams go my car does real good with the torquer camshaft, very streetable and 27mpg on the highway. Made 392 rwhp on a mustang dyno cam only, not quite to your goal, but why not go cam only and spary it? That would put in the 500hp region and still be a good DD, if your budget doesn't allow for a procharger.

i entertained the procharger idea.. but i got 135k miles so i wanted to take it apart clean it and replace as much as i could so might as well do heads/cam .. im also getting a double roller timing chain, ported ls6 oil pump.. anything else thatd be good to replace on an old engine, ur opinion is appreciated.. oh and of course pushrods.. i like the stg 2.5 5.3 heads, magic stick 3 tsp 3 sound good with that.. i want to get ultimately to 480 rwhp and keep it as a dd with ported 90/90 and some good headers..

With 450 to the wheels you should run away from him. Cobras are heavy turds. I ran a 99z with a cam stalled auto 4.10s and m/t streets i was out a car or two. That was before my solid axle swap and 3.73s.

Are you going to pull the engine? What transmission?

I would go MS3 Cam and PRC 5.3 Heads and boost the compression up a little bit. That Should put you in the 43x to 44x range with supporting mods. With gears you can kiss that Cobra good by. That is a tried and true setup. Very good cam and very good heads. This application would be very street able and when you want go have the punch that delivers it. That’s my 2 cents. Good Luck!

Also I remember racing a 2002 with full exhaust and cai, with a stock Camaro Z28 with nothing done to it and a person it the passenger seat and racing from 40 to 12x or 130x dead even three straight pulls. Cobra's are over rated. My Buddy with the 05' Shelby GT500 even told me he dynoed 462 hp no where near the clammed 500hp.

I'll get dyno results in a couple weeks but I "should" be from 440-450 w/ my new setup and it's VERY streetable IMO. AFR 205's milled to 62cc w/ a Patrick G custom cam 231/235 0.614"/0.619" 113+4 and bolt-ons with the stock LS6 intake/ported TB.

ms3 cam for a dd do some more research dude. You will lose your *** on the street going that big. Peak numbers and gears are good for et's but not on the street. look at a dyno sheet on the ms3. terrible torque curve for a street car. You would def need to run gears with that cam also. My asa cam only would whip my buddys ms3 cam only on the street. Both runnin stock 3.42's tho. Not tryin to push an opinion on ya, but if u where to ask just about anyone on here, ms3 aint no street cam. good for track and dyno queens. I guess it can be a matter of opinion but ms3 or bigger you are gonna need gears and a good tune. I would definately get that thing ground on a 112 for better/lower torque, but that would have one hell of a rough idle for a dd.

I am pretty sure I said gears in there, I like the MS3 over the Tsunami which he was talking about. If the MS3 is big then what do you call the Tsunami Cam?

wow..

i DD an ms4 in an a4..

an ms3 is ABSOLUTELY fine....

BUT!!!!!!!!

since you want 450 and your an m6...

PRC ls6 heads
ls6 intake (or used FAST 9090 even better)
pretty much any 230+/232+ .600+
410s
free flowing exhaust

that will get you VERY close..

enough that you wont have to worry about many stock blower cobras..

o and to ^^^^^... since an ms3 is a turd on the street does that make the ms4 a joke???
-side note- i ran 600cc bikes on motor on street tires and got that "OMG I JUST GOT BEAT BY A CAR" look.. and then the "dude, your car is ******* sick what the **** do you have done".. my TQ was just fine.. besides why do you need it to pull at 3k RPMs when you have a 4k stall and it wont ever see anything under 5k under WOT..

all that TQ under the curve is bull ****... is it "fun", yea.. does it make a "better/faster" street car? no..
also, FWIW.. i have a custom grind 226/228 .588 in my car right now and would take it any day over the ms4.. but for something you want to just straight haul *** anywhere anytime through any RPM range.. ms4 has my vote..

Procharger idea is the best way. Easily over 500 to the wheel and be very street driveable.
